02 wrx i have code p1507 and i have injector 2 has a pulse while cranking but goes away once the car is running?

Cylinder 2 misfire. Injector fires while cranking but goes away once car is running. both compression and spark are good.

How are you checking the voltage to the injector? The injector voltage at idle is hard to determine with a convention test light.

The black soot on the plugs means that you are running extremely rich. The fuel injectors ma test good electricly, but they are notorious for leaks. The spider-looking thing sandwiched between the plastic intake plenum and the intake manifold gets cracks in it's "legs" and leaks fuel ito the plenum area. The fuel pressure regulator is also housed in this same assembly. if the diaphram in the regulator gets a pinhole in it, it also leaks fuel into the plenum area, causing all kinds of erratic idleing, black smoke from the exhaust, and will cause your fuel trims to drop into the negative 20s.

There is a technical service bulletin covering this subject. This procedure outlines the steps required to replace the existing Central SFI Fuel System with a new MFI (Multiport Flexible Injection) Fuel System.

It is removing the injectors which are all housed in the center body of the injector assembly and replacing them with a new version where the injectors are located where the ols "poppets" used to be in the intake manifold ports. The picture below is for a V-8 engine that is covered by the same TSB.052d4ba.gif
The poppets and the pressure regulator are available individually to fix your existing fuel injection system, but I gave up on that after replacing several poppets only to have them come back in a few months with another popet line broken. I recommend replacing the whole assembly with the new and improved version. My customers have told me after doing this that the engine never ran that smooth when it was new.

The GM part number for the new injector assembly for your V-6 engine is 12568332 it is also now available at several aftermarket parts outlets.

As for the timing chain solution posted by doodieman200, all I have to say is that I have enough fingers on one hand to count all of the failed timing chains I have replaced on these engines. If you don't have a cam/crank sync code, the timing chain has definitely not slipped a tooth.

P020 and P0302 Error codes


You need to have the injector circuit for cylinder 2 checked. Possibly the ground for the injector-which goes into the engine computer-may have a bad wire. The power wire for the injector should have power on it anytime the key is on. When the computer internally grounds the individual injectors, the injector will pulse, or spray fuel out into the cylinder. When the injector circuit malfunctions, no pulse, and you get the misfire.

With the engine running and the cylinder misfiring tap (key word is tap) the injector with a screwdriver a couple of times. If the misfire goes away replace the injector.

I have a 1996 328is. After you run the engine at about 2500 rpm for a couple of minutes, it will misfire, and the reason for the misfire is it looses injector pulse to a cylinder. If you turn the car off...


The 1st thing u need to do here is run a trouble code test on the engine control system, it is called an OBD 2 trouble code test, but based on the symptom it sounds like u either have a defective camshaft or crankshaft position sensor, these sensors signal the PCM (powertrain control module) when the cylinder should receive spark and when the injectors should fire, if the signal is erratic or just stops all kinds of weird things happen, erratic fuel injector pulse for sure, but as I 1st stated a trouble code test is needed to pin down the sensor, if no codes exist hen it is poss the PCM is defective.

What the miss there before you started replacing parts or did you replace some of them as maintenance items. Like the plugs. Possible that the parts store gave you one with a crack in it??? Also how about a vacuum leak at the intake gasket. You said you have compression. Have you tried checking running compression. A broken valve spring can cause good cranking compression, but cause no compression when it's running.

Ce lights on code reads #3 cylinder misfire


I assume this 'complete' tune up was plugs, wires and plennum (intake surge tank) gasket?
If so, recommend you first check to see if you are getting an injector pulse to the #3 injector (a noid light is normally used to verify the injector is receiving the 'pulse' from the ECM. The noid light is a very useful tool in finding out if you have problems with your fuel injector. It is cheap (around 10 dollars per piece), easy to use (if the light blinks, your injector is receiving the electrical pulse to open). If after you verify the injector pulse is present, the next step is to determine if the injector or cylinder is the problem. A simple verification process requires swapping the #3 injector with another to see if the misfire moves to the swapped cylinder.(.i.e, move #3 injector to #2 cylinder & the #2 injector to #3 cylinder.).. Then run engine to see if the P0303 changes to P0302. This would VERIFY the injector is in some way defective. If the misfire STAYS at #3 cylinder, you'll want to perform a compression test of all the cylinders. If after this test you find #3 cylinder is more than 10% lower than all the other cylinders, do a 'Leak-Down' test to determine if the low compression is due to leaky valves (intake or exhaust) or whether the piston/rings are the problem. NOTE: If all the cylinders are withing 10% of each other during the compression test, the possible causes are, injector O-ring leak, vacuum leak at the intake manifold at #3 cylinder, or the spark plug not firing under compression.

OK IS THERE IS ACTUALLY A mis-FIRE THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE SHAKING DURING IDLE AND ACCELERATION IF IT IS, here is what you do get a noid light this used to check injector pulse. This vehicle will set a misfire code if injector is not functioning efficiently or bad. A noid light is like a test light bulb can be bought at almost any auto store.SART UP VEHICLE AND DISCONNECT THE INJECTOR WIRE TO THE CYLINDER THAT'S mis-FIRING AND CONNECT noid LIKE TO ELECTRICAL PLUG. DO THIS ONE CYLINDER AT A TIME. The nod light should have a steady flickering light/consistent pattern of flickering. If there is Gap/irratic flickering or no flickering BINGO you have found your problem. NO FLICKERING= bad/broken injector wire if not broken BAD COMPUTER/ECU. IF THE FLICKERING IS CONSISTENT /GOOD = BAD INJECTOR..replace injector and solve the misfire problem. However is all the components tested are ALL GOOD. Then the only other SOURCE for a mis-fire is the camshaft sensor that provides reference for injector pulse and the crankshaft sensor provide reference for Spark pulse.
