SOURCE: battery died and anti theft code went into effect

Call your Volvo dealer with the VIN number. They can give you the code and advise if you can reset it yourself or if you will have to take it in.

SOURCE: Anti-theft

if the vehicle starts then stops and the anti-theft light is flahing you may need to re-set the pass-key system to do this you will need to atempt to start the vehicle and when it stalls leave the key in that position and watch the anti-theft light. it should flash on and off for about 5 to 10 minutes. when it stops flahing turn the ignition to off then try to restart your vehicle

SOURCE: anti-theft system will not allow car to start

Have you chaged the battery on the remote. And also do you have a valet button under the dash somewhere if you push it for about 15-30 sec. it should reset the alarm. if it fails you might need a whole new alarm system.

SOURCE: Anti theft activated-now car won't start and radio

to turn off the theft system, all you have to do is put the key in the door lock and lock and unlock the door, this shuts down the anti theft system, now this has nothing to do with the radio, the only way the radio would ask for the code is if it was removed or the battery unhooked, anyway try the unlocking of the door even try the passenger door, hope this helps.

You need to have the anti-theft code put in to make the radio work, this happens when the battery power is lost. Call the dealer or go to www.radio-codes.com

How do I fix my 1998 E36 316i South African Edition BMW which won't switch on after the Tumbler and Tumbler Housing has been replaced with new parts and the starter motor and code box has been tested?

A BMW 'specialist' is not the same as a BMW dealership who have the benefit of more experience, computer diagnostics, computer rectification and knowledge right back to BMW in Germany.

The car has an immobiliser which is driven by a chip in the key and a chip in the tumbler housing. The two have to match codes and be paired. Your specialist should know this, I am not a BMW anything, but that behaviour sounds like an anti-theft device kicking in especially for the South African market. You get hijacked and your car stops well after the incident.

When you say inoperative do you mean nothing comes up on the screen or the display is aking for a code, safe or - - - -?

The anti-theft code on our 1994 BMW 740iL was plugged in after the battery was replaced + that new code has now disabled the car, as you would want with an anti-theft system. Now, no one knows the code...

For 1995 and older models.
Simply lock the door with the key from outside of the car, then unlock it. Then start the car. I think this lets the computer know that someone who has the correct key is attempting to start it.
