When I get questions on checking sensors I want to know why you need this information. Anyway, the only way to check the Coolant Temperature Sensor is with a diagnostic computer or a decent code reader that give data.

'05 Grand Am 3.4 V6 Temp Gauge not Working all of a sudden.


Sounds like a temp sensor or wiring problem.
You may only have one sensor for both the gauge and the engine computer.
If the computer temp sensor fails, or is not sending a signal to the engine computer, the fans will run as a precaution to keep the engine from overheating.
If you have replaced the correct sensor, it could be a wiring problem, or the engine coolant could be low enough to not touch the sensor.
If the coolant sensor is not sending a signal, the check engine light should also be on.

Cooling fans not working at all i have replaced the relays and thermostat. what else could be wrong


Most likely a bad coolent temp sensor. To check unplug coolent temp sensor while vehicle is running and see if fans come on. If fan comes on replace coolent temp sensor.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4.0L engine... the temperature only rises to about 150 degrees and stops... sometimes lowers a bit even at highway speeds. Normal operating temp is about 210-215 degrees. ...


The thermostat controls the temp of the engine. The temp sensor tells the gauge what temp to display. If the heater is still putting out a lot of heat then it may be a false reading temp gauge. If however the temp is noticibly cooler then replace the thermostat. A stuck open thermostat would also cause the engine to warm up slowly. check for a loose/dirty connection at the plug on the temp sensor.

Check engine code po125 - 97 GP 3.8 - heater blows cold as engine temp rises to redline, then kicks in HOT and engine temp drops to normal... REPEAT. Is this the code for coolant temp sensor? Where is it...


What your describing is either a sticking thermostat, a low coolant condition or a blown cylinder head gasket.The code is for coolant temp fault.Not always the temp sensor but it is located next to the thermostat housing.

2001 Chevy Blazer. Service engine soon light on. Check comp and replaced Temp. sender. Light came back on and it says it's the thermostat temp. sensor. Any idea where this is located?


The temperature sensor is located on the intake manifold by the thermostat housing. Check the wire leads first and if that's good, replace the sensor and thermostat. The 4.3 was programed by the factory to run it's best at 190'", if it runs too cold. The mil light comes on indicating a temperature sensor failure.

Don't fool with the sensor.
Your thermostat is staying open too long. The code tells me this. Replace the thermostat, and you will be fine.

sounds like a possible water temp issue... check your thermostat and/or water temp sensor. when you first start your engine the computer uses the water temp reading to do a 'cold start' scenario, more fuel. once you reach normal operating temp the fuel should be cut back. if the thermostat is not opening and closing properly this can cause strange readings from the water temp sensor (which is mounted near the thermostat)... unlikely the sensor is bad, but a possibility... more likely the thermostat.

Coolant doesn't heat up!


the temp sensor just tells you the temp of the coolant and it controlls the coolant fan to turn on and off at a certain temperature........have you check for coolant leeaks???

Location of thermostat and replacement


Finding the thermostat is easy. Just follow the top radiator hose back to the engine.
The question I have is how to get to the bottom screw of the thermostat housing.

Any Sugustions anyone?
