This is a well known problem on WJ s. Most of the time the problem is with the light socket. Bend the small copper coloured tabs a bit out. Sometimes you need to bend the other side on the light assy a bit out too to restore the contact.;

Brad V's "bad ground" is most likely cause. I'd start investigating with the tail lights. (Not the headlights, but they may also be an issue.) Confirm all bulbs on both sides are good. That includes running lights, brake lights, turn signals and reverse. Some bulbs may have dual-function, the 3157 bulb in the J2K is one that serves stop-light (brake) and tail/running lights. Replace if suspect. Make sure the bulbs are mounted correctly. Rust can cause a poor ground so you might have to replace the socket or fixture if it is grounded to the fixture. By any chance do the turn signals also have issues? Or the emergency flash switch bulbs?

If your bulbs pop into an inert that gets twisted into the brake housing check the points of contact, try backing it off a little and try it while its making contact on the new area.worked for my stratus. Good luck

It's either bad bulbs (there's a couple of elements in them) or you have the wrong bulbs.

You have a ground problem. Finding it may or may not be easy. I would start with the light fixture and go from there. remember that dodge products the switch is on the neg side

Check the pedal if it is jamming half way down. Brake lights work by 2 means one is a pressure switch the other is a mechanical switch both requires the pedal to be pressed. Your subscription tells me the brakes are binding and the switch is made.

1993 chevy silverado parking lamps go of when i turn on headlights, signal lights flicker when i press on brake.

Yes I would look for a ground circuit problem. I would look at the ground wires for the headlights first. Even run a new ground wire for the tail lights to see if it helps.
Could be a ground connection for the body to frame or body to battery.

No brake light no running lights no dash lights if u play with the headlight switch u can get every thing to work but brake lights but when u press the brake it turns your headlights off

Hi,
I'll make it brief( something wrong w/ my ISP ).
You got problem in the light switch assembly, the plastic cam is already melted and failed to push the metal contactors to the contact points. Replace is necessary.
The brake and headlight problem, better check the shorted wire in the relay and fuse box in the engine area, there is a shorted wire that stealing the power of the headlight relay, thus it turns off when you step on brakes.

Recommendation: Better have a tech to check on that, a total check up of the lighting and brake light harness is required, the main harness under your steering must be check thoroughly.

Hope that helps!

When headlight are on and hit the beake pedal only the 3rd brake light comes on the rest are stuck . When i release brake pedal it seems like i am driving with my brake light on . but my headlight off...

It may sound silly, but check your brake light bulbs to see if they have been installed incorrectly. Brake light bulbs have two filaments, one for tail light, and a brighter one for brake lights. On some cars if the bulb is installed wrong, the brighter filament will stay on for tail lights. The only other thing I can think of is the wrong bulbs have been installed.

Dash brake light on Parking brake is off

If the parking brakes are offf but you are getting an indication of the brake light then checck on
1. Low brake fluid levels, failure of master cylinder/wheel cylinder.
2. failrue of the park brake switch-- shorted or not released.
3. failure of the fluid level sensor.

Check these out before your travel.

My brakes lights stay on when my headlights are on, but the brake lights work fine when my headlights are off. Do you know what may be the problem?

This problem likely is the filaments touching in one of the dual filament bulbs used for the brake lights. Another sign of this would be the dash illumination lights coming on when the headlights are off and the brake pedal is pressed. The solution is to replace the defective bulb.

Right tail light not working when pressing brake w/ lights on.

There should be at least 2 bulbs in the light assembly. One light is the light that is on when you turn on your headlights with out the brake pressed, the other light only lights up while you press on the brake. Make sure you are replacing the correct bulb. You may have been replacing the bulb that stays on. Your lights may be set up to turn off the light that stays on when the headlights are on while pressing the brakes.
