I bought my '99 grand am used and 3 weeks later had a 'chirping' noise coming from the engine. The main belt was wet from coolant, ergo coolant was leaking. Found out it was the head gasket which was $1600 (canadian) to fix, but was covered by my warranty. Perhaps this helps?

Certain brands (cheapo) of serpentine belt will do this. It is because the new belt is thinner than the old belt. This causes reduced spring tension by the belt tensioning device. Other possible problems are a bad belt tensioner, driving through deep water and getting the belt wet while driving or a defective crankshaft harmonic balancer assembly.
I HATE Dayco brand belts, because they do this a lot. I would have the shop inspect the parts mentioned above. If they are OK, tell them you want a new belt (for free).

I have a 2001 Grand am Se V6 3400. It has a squeak/ chirp from the belt. I havechanged the belt, the tensioner, and both pulleys and it still chirps. Any thoughts on what it could be?

Remove the belt and spin the alternator by hand. If you hear it squeak or groan than the bearings are going bad. Replace it.

I’m happy to assist further over the phone at

1999 ford expedition make noise when idle but stop when pickup speed. make a chirping sound when idle .i check pulleys & belt (ok) disconnect belt but still make chirping sound

Might be your water pump. Check for drips of antifreeze
Usually the bottom of the pump has a weep hole and the 1st sign besides the noise is antifreeze dripping from the weep hole

When i go around corners i hear a squealing noise for a couple of seconds comming from the brakes

Generally this means that your brake pads have worn down and need to be replaced. The pads are equipped with"squealers". They let you know when they need to be replaced. You should also be hearing the noise when you apply the brakes.

It makes a chirping noise all the time

Chipping can be caused from a bad bearing that needs to be replaced or lubricated. It could be inside the alternator. power steering pump, idler pulley, Whater pump, AC compressor, and so on.
Use a long handle such as a broom stick and place the stick to each item that is belt driven. Place it at a secure place such as the housing so the stick does not get near the belt. As the engine is running place your ear at the other end of the stick. This works as a Stethoscope same as a doctor uses. The chirpping will be hear the loudest at one of the belt drive accessories during your testing

99 Chevy Malibu belt chirping noise problem.

one or more of the pulley's is defective, most likely the tensioner pulley, but check them all for wear and side to side movement which indicates a worn bearing, this causes the belt to not run true and chirp.

1999 grand am gt makes a loud noise

it sounds like to me the pads are draging on the rotor. when you stop the pads stay tuching the rotor. so if you had it done profesonally take it back. if you did it you self get some brake lube and aplay it on any moving parts
