Question about 1996 Jeep Cherokee

1 Answer

I have a 96 Jeep Cherokee. Will a bad crankshaft position sensor keep vehicle from starting? Engine cranks fine but will not start. Fuel pressure seems fine, but I don't have spark.

2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0 Mercedes CRD will not start

does it start and run for 3 seconds on test fuel

yes, engine ok, EFI bad.

no, bad engine, engine must be good to run.

EFI cant run bad engines..

so compression at spec......????

why beat the EFI to death,

all engines run on test fuel.

with gas engines, takes spark and good engine

on diesel, takes only good engine. simple huh (and some air)

for test fuel try diesel in a spray bottle into the injection port.

google this

or use youtube on test fuel on any diesel car. or truck

this is called basics....... basic basics.

1: good engine, and pumps air ok. (must breath)

2: good fuel.

3: test fuel works now. if not check above.

I have a 95 grand Cherokee. I'm getting fuel, and I'm getting spark. I replaced the crankshaft position sensor, and it still wont start. I spray starting fluid in carb, it starts and dies. Please help

what does getting mean? which engine, 4Liter or 5.2 or what?
spark at all cylinders is getting and timed right?
runs on test fuel so sparks good, that means fuel is bad
or flooding or too little fuel.
code 12 cranking for 5 seconds, means sensors are ok.
why replace parts that make spark when sparks good, it run on test fuel, why worry spark.? and not just fueling.?

now lets do fuel, step one is fuel pressure, not squirt tests.or dribble test. a real tool called,a fuel pressure gauge that works, and nothing else, (unless rail is dry and now we know its not)

if all spark plug tips are dry, are they?
then its not injecting, (the ECU can cut injection for 2 reasons) ask
or there is no real pressure.
so we open the FSM and read page FUELING
49psi is idle pressure, (more cranking with so little vacuum)

the tests are all there,

I was driving the jeep all day long-no problem. went to leave the house and it would not start. it cranks but will not even hit

Common problems are crankshaft position sensor located on rear of engine over flywheel. Fuel pumps are also known to fail. Check for fuel pressure at fuel tap on injector rail with fuel pressure gage. If above 30 p.s.i. pump o.k. Check for spark at plugs. If no spark suspect crank sensor. If check engine light on have codes read to help in diagnosis.

No fire to coil from coil on 96 model Jeep Grand Cherokee.

You need to put the harmonic balance for the 96 jeep on this motor, then put the crankshaft sensor on for the 96 jeep on the vehicle, this should fix you up.The crankshaft sensor and the harmonic balance have to go together. If I can be further help, let me know.>>roniecon@gmail.com

it is possable/likely a bad ECTS (engine coolant tep. sensor), this can cause the injectors to allow to much fuel into cylinders and cause a low compression and or flooding situation, good luck, marty

Jeep won't start until a clicking sound comes from fuse box

The click you hear is the fuel pump relay. It gets its signal to energize from the PCM.If you have a faulty Crankshaft Position Sensor, the PCM will not work. Check for a bad fuel pump relay and also all of the other sensors: Camshaft Position Sensor, MAP Sensor, Idle air Control, Intake Air Sensor, etc.
