Battery light on

is the alternator charging? check a single tiny cable plug going to the alternator if it is not plugged right it could make the battery light flicker or simple turn it on. that little wire receives a signal from voltage regulator if alternator isnt charging correctly.

Cougar 1999 lights flicker after changing alternator have 14.7 volts on output

Voltage regulator is not doing its job, and it is allowing excessive voltage into the circuit. If you do not address this problem, some light bulbs and LEDs might start to burn out. Either replace the voltage regulator, or modify the circuit between alternator and regulator to match later model cougars, where this problem was solved.

My battery indicator light flickers on and off while I am stopped and the vehicle is on. What could be the problem?

Have your alternator and voltage regulator checked...most autoparts stores offer free diagnostic tests for your battery, alternator, and voltage regulator. If/when one or all test bad you can have them replaced right there!

I've noticed that the light on my radio has started to flicker slightly, I just replaced my battery, could this be the alternator? This happens only when the car is running.

It is usually nothing to worry about. It is not really the alternator itself but the voltage regulator. Most cars go for years after this starts before anything has to be replaced.

Flickering lights

In some 1999/2000 Cougars the wire between the battery and the voltage regulator(altenator) had a resistance reading that is too high. Ford has issued an TSB 00-25-6 that has instructions on how to replace this wire. The part # for the replacement wire is
