Question about 2002 Ford Expedition
My 5.0 v8 wont rev above 2000rpm and lightly backfires in the engine when i floor the gas. Truck will barely run then.Replaced fuel Filter and Fuel Pump..Idles nicely and no problem starting just wont rev above 2000rpm then engine wants to die.Problem seems to have appeared overnight..recently went for a smog check and it failed HC (PPM)to high but truck drove fine home .What am i Missing? Thanks
If you have a hih miles truck,it is very possoble you have aclogged cat.Have a muffler shop test pressure in front and behind by drilling small holes,checkin w/gauge,then welding back.This should be free if you replace the cat.

I would check the oil pressure of the engine. The reason is the timing chain tensioners are run with oil pressrue. I think your timing chain tensioners are leaking down when engine is getting to operating tempature . The oil is thinning down as warms up , as it should to lubercate . I would check compression and do a cylinder leak down test on all the cylinders. Then if the compression is good and the cylinder leak down is good. I would change all the timing components, ( chain, timing gears, timing chain tensioners )

Replace the fuel pump relay. And if your truck has dual tanks there's three fuel pumps, one in each tank and another secondary fuel pump.

i had a van do this same thing to a tee turned out to be a broken key pin in the harmonic balencer causing the timing to ****** replaced balencer and ran like a dream there is a crank sensor grid on the balencer when the key pin broke it trew the timing off

I Have a 1999 ford f150 4.6 that back fires and is just running really ruff when idling alot of nack fire a sord of like a pulse going on what is my problem?
