Question about Buick Skylark

Open Question

Replaced the starter on my 1995 Buick Skylark now nothing turns on--no lights, radio, ignition. The battery is fully charged what could by the problem

When replacing the starter the first time we connected the three terminals to starter then then tested the battery for sparks and there were sparks. So we switched the the terminals around on the starter and tested it again nothing happened so we finished connecting the battery and tried starting the car. Now nothing turns on--no lights, or ignition. We jumped the starter manually and turned over but there is no power from the ignition to the starter. What could be the problem and how can we fix it. Please help thank you.

SOURCE: 95 F150 wont crank

the starter should be replaced. The solenoid is kikcing the pinion out but there is no contact being made to turn the starter motor. I have the exact same truck and before i changed the starter used the old starter tap trick. Tap the starter casing with a hammer and it should start turning again. hope this was helpful for you. Good luck.

So the lights and the radio work so i know is not the battery but the car will not start and it doesnt make a sound so i think is the ignition problem so i dont know where is the solenoid located on a...

The solenoid is located on the starter so if the starter doesn't function then it could be a bad starter which will have to be replaced with a known good one.

But, I would try replacing or charging the battery to max. voltage to see if that makes a difference.
Sometimes, the lights and radio work, but there isn't enough charge on the battery to supply enough 'current' to the starter which takes up more current than the lights and radio combined.

Also, try to clean the battery terminals to maximize current and voltage to the starter.

My 1995 chevrolet silverado wont turn over. it acts as if it wants to crank but doesnt. the dash lights light up but my headlights and radio wont come on. My battery is fully charged and my alternator is...

Sounds like the starter may have some issues. However, the headlights and radio not coming on is a sign that either the battery is not charged up sufficiently, or there are some blown fuses.

Also, the connections should be checked at the battery for corrosion which can block the electricity from flowing freely from a 'charged' battery to the starter or the lights.

Good luck on this repair.

Hello john_harr: My name is Roger and I can give you some things to look at. First make sure the cables are clean at the battery. This being a Buick follow the red positive wire from the battery towards the junction block make sure all connections are tight. Also make sure the connections are ok at the fuse box under the hood.It might be helpful to check continuity of the battery cables. Do this with a volt/ohm meter. current should pass through end to end. Can also be checked with a test light. The battery cables have been known to corroded off inside the insulation of the cable. I would also check all fusible links. They will be over at the junction block. Tug on the wires gently. If the pull apart then it is burnt out and will need to be replaced.
Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the quality of your answer as this way we know your answer helped. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger
