Question about Mazda RX-8

Air solenoid My 2004 Mazda RX-8 has the check engine light on for the code P0661. I got it checked and it reads "VIS control solenoid valve circuit low input" the probable cause it gave me were; aa1- open or short circuit condition. aa2- poor electrical connection. aa3 VIS control solenoid fault. Is this an issue that would have to be done by the dealership or can a specific car shop do it? Also, what can happen if driving it as is?

SOURCE: 06 Corolla Pressure Control Solenoid D Electrical Fault

There is a technical service bulletin to correct this condition. Replacement of the car's Electronic Control Unit (the computer) will cure this. Take it to a Toyota dealer and have them replace it for free.

I think you have a faulty loom multiconnector in the engine compartment ,either the wires have the insulation turned to powder of the connections are corroded ,well something drastic but simple wher eand what without my head in the engine i honestly couldnt tell you

Possible causes
- Faulty Vacuum hoses damaged
- Faulty Air Pump inoperative
- Air bypass solenoid harness is open or shorted
- Air bypass solenoid circuit poor electrical connection
- Air bypass solenoid leaking/blocked or stuck open/closed
- Air diverter valve leaking/blocked or stuck open/closed

The secondary air injection system does not detect the presence of air in the exhaust when introduced by the secondary air injection system.
Possible symptoms

My 2004 Mazda Rx8 check engines are P2259 and P0661. Can you tell me what this means.


P0661 is an SSV Solenoid problem. P2259 is an A.I.R. solenoid problem. they both have power coming from the Main Relay. its complicated but make sure the fuses are good EGI Comp 1 and the AIR PUMP other than that the dealer will need to check it.

DTC P2070: Intake Manifold Tuning Valve Stuck Open Bank 1
Probable cause:
  1. Sensor or solenoid faulty
  2. Connector terminal contact damaged or corroded
  3. Wire harness fault - Check for correct voltage, open, short to ground or short to voltage
  4. Update control unit software - Check for the latest control unit update
  5. PCM or ECM faulty

It will not go off by itself,you will need to reset it by connecting to a diagnostic tool.Once cleared if there is any other problem then it will trigger the check engine light again.Hope this helps..
