Engine light and oil light on

Starter replaced, check engine warning light came on, engine kills while driving. Towing guy suggested the wires were crossed on starter. Returned to repair shop, code is a transmission problem, oil lamp light came on, oil level good, what is the problem?

Repair shop said it's a transmission code, then suggested it was torch converter lock up clutch, it may or may not happen again. The shop left code on for me to take to a transmission place. The oil lamp light came on again with the check engine light, as stated, oil level good.

The code that came up will tell you what sensor/ servo/ solenoid needs attention. Forget the starter suggestion. Most probably if it has a transmission code it would be a transmission control module . Come back in a comment as to the code so that we may be able to help you with suggestions as to where the shop should look.

Either take it to a autoparts store and they will turn it off or disconnect the battery for five minutes and the computer will reset. If it comes back on your local auto parts representative can harmlessly run a code check on it to see what the problem is.

2003 Sunfire automatic 245000km runs well, engine stops while driving, clicking under the dash, then restarts , runs fine until next time

with the details that you have provided, it sounds like it may be either a ground, or ignition relay, but I've also encountered the same problem being the starter wire to the starter. The reason I think that is because of your dash lights coming back on .If you have use of a voltmeter you can test and see how much power is actually going to the starter An ignition relay could do the same, but usually won't interrupt the engine after it's running.

I need to know where the oli sending unit is and how to replace it?

Fig. 2: Location of the oil pressure switch-3.0L engine

Fig.: Oil pressure switch (sending unit) schematic

The low oil pressure warning lamp will illuminate when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position without the engine running. The lamp also illuminates if the engine oil pressure drops below a safe oil pressure level. To test the system, perform the following:

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. If the lamp does not light, check for a broken or disconnected wire around the engine and oil pressure sending unit switch.
  3. If the wire at the connector checks out OK, pull the connector loose from the switch and, with a jumper wire, ground the connector to the engine.
  4. With the ignition switch turned to the ON position, check the warning lamp. If the lamp still fails to light, check for a burned out lamp or disconnected socket in the instrument cluster.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
On the 2.4L engine, the oil pressure switch is located on the side of the engine block facing the firewall. On the 3.0L engine, the oil pressure switch is located on the oil filter adapter housing, next to the starter motor. On the 3.3L and 3.8L engines, the oil pressure switch is located next to the oil filter.
  1. Locate the oil pressure sending unit on the engine.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Disconnect the pressure switch electrical harness.
  4. Using a pressure switch socket, deep-well socket or wrench, loosen and remove the pressure switch from the engine.
To install:
  1. Install the pressure switch into the engine and tighten securely.
  2. Attach the electrical connector to the switch.
  3. Connect the negative battery cable.
  4. Start the engine, allow it to reach operating temperature and check for leaks.
  5. Check for proper oil pressure switch operation.

Hope this helps (remember to rate this answerr).

My check engine light is on sometimes blinks, vsc light on and the other vs? lights on. new emissions in sept oil good radiator fluied good. is this a big problem should I tow it or drive it to be checked

This problem could be something major. But it could be something simple and safe to drive. But I would suggest towing it to be safe. Usually when the check engine light blinks it is something that is dangerous to drive. But not always. But I would suggest having the car towed to be on the safe side.

install a mechanical guage to test the actual pressure, if its fine the sending unit is faulty, if nor remove the oil pan and check the oil pickup for blockage,

97 F350 diesel check engine light stays on and is running rough?

Ok, lets take this from the top. I have a 97 f250 diesel. In mid may mine did the same thing. It's either one of two things. You have under valve cover harnesses (uvc). They slide in under your valve covers, you will see two wiring harnesses on the outside of the valve cover gaskets on either side of the block. Ok, it IS possible one of these slipped out of place and killed two of your injectors, causing the horrible running/ low idle/no power/ sounds like the truck is going to stall symptoms. The easiest way to check that is to unplug the wires while the truck is running and see if it kills the engine, if it doesen't unplug the other one on the same side of the valve cover. If both of these don't cause any change then you have a bigger problem, the IDM (Injector drive module).

FAIR WARNING: When you unplug the wires with the truck on it is extremely dangerous, it is 110 volt feed. It can kill you.

OK, the IDM is a silver box, 8"x10" approx dimensions, located on the driver side under the hood, over top the front tire. If you take the wires you unplugged and take a multi meter to them and they are dead, you have a bad IDM. This was the case with my truck. Ford designed the IDM to have a hole in the side to allow condensation to escape from it, unfortunately, this allows water inside and will short out resistors and practically kill half of your engine. Buy a new IDM on ebay for about $380. It takes 5 minuts to put it in.

I hope this helps you out man.

Ajajaj.
You have chosen the wrong car for the DIY instalation of the wiring for the towing ;)

You must buy a separate module that connects into the car's MOST and CAN networks. This way the car has full control over additional light, it can change the program for the engine etc, etc...
Do not try to connect additional lights to the existing lights because the computer will show some warnings / errors in the wiring.

Well, if you are the real DIY guy with experience, you can mount additional relay for every lamp on the trailer. But you must then get enough power from the battery + mount additional fuses. I still suggest the original parts for the safety reasons.

At the Volvo dealer you can order original towing kit. All together including work it should be about 400 to 500 eur.
