Question about 2001 Pontiac Montana
The thermostat needs to be replaced, I started to do the job then ran out of time and replaced everything and that is when this started.
Sounds like you might have a vacuum leak, retrace your steps and make sure all hoses are connected and switches. By the way did the engine light come on if so it might have send an engine code. Good luck.

Check fluid level and see if it smells burned. If you do not work on it yourself, have a good reliable trans shop check it out. Usually the repair shop you use can recommend which trans shops do good work.

Do you have an after market air intake that uses an oiled filter? If so - you could very well have fouled the MAF sensor again. If not - you could be having a misfire condition - which will throw a code and trigger the SES (Service Engine Soon) light. Any major auto parts store will have an OBDII scanner and will be able to read the code and clear it.
