Question about 2001 Pontiac Montana

1 Answer

Right after I start it the engine revs to 4000 then drops to 3500 then up to 4000(repeat it until I shut the vehicle off)

The thermostat needs to be replaced, I started to do the job then ran out of time and replaced everything and that is when this started.

Sounds like you might have a vacuum leak, retrace your steps and make sure all hoses are connected and switches. By the way did the engine light come on if so it might have send an engine code. Good luck.

Check fluid level and see if it smells burned. If you do not work on it yourself, have a good reliable trans shop check it out. Usually the repair shop you use can recommend which trans shops do good work.

SOURCE: had mass senser replaced ran good 4 awhile now

Do you have an after market air intake that uses an oiled filter? If so - you could very well have fouled the MAF sensor again. If not - you could be having a misfire condition - which will throw a code and trigger the SES (Service Engine Soon) light. Any major auto parts store will have an OBDII scanner and will be able to read the code and clear it.

this is your rev limiter stopping you from over reving engine causing internal damage. this is normal on all new vehicles. Don't know what year they started this but it goes back at least 16 yrs

How do I bleed the cooling system for a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer. It is a 6 cylinder.

The simplest way is to raise the front of the vehicle to where the radiator is higher than the engine. Start the engine, turn the heater controls to maximum temperature and remove the radiator cap. Let the engine run, when the thermostat opens up, the coolant level in the radiator tank will drop as the coolant is being drawn into the engine. Pour antifreeze into the radiator until it is full. Let the coolant level drop again, and repeat the filling process. Continue to do this until the coolant level no longer drops. All the air has been displaced with liquid. Put the radiator cap back on and lower the vehicle. A tip: add the coolant slowly so as not to cause the thermostat to close. If it closes you will lose some coolant from overflow. Just wait for it to open up again and refill.

How to remove rediator air lock on a Golf 4 TDi.

Remove the radiator cap. Raise the front of the vehicle with a jack so that the radiator is higher than the engine. Start the engine and let it run. Watch the coolant level in the radiator. When the thermostat opens an the coolant starts to flow, the coolant level should drop rapidly. Add antifreeze til the radiator is full. Keep repeating this process until the coolant level no longer drops. If the thermostat closes while you are doing this, the coolant will probably spill over the top of the radiator. That's ok. Just wait for the thermostat to open again and refill the lost coolant. Put the radiator cap back on while the engine is running. Make sure there is coolant in the overflow reservoir. Lower the vehicle and that should take care of the airlock.

The vehicle has a rev limiter. Will it rev over 3500 when you drive it? If no, then I would guess that the exhaust might be partially restricted. But the engine computer won't allow you to free rev the engine that high in park and neutral.

run the engine until it gets warm. shut the vehicle down and let it cool off. top fluid off again. you may need to repeat this. after topping off run car while keeping an eye on the temp gauge, alson turn the heat on high, if coolant is not full heat wont work.
there is probably a "burp" screw or hose on the vehicle to allow filling while pushing all the air out, i'm just not positive exactly where it is on that vehicle.

Engine runs very rough

You have a throttle position sensor on your vehicle that needs proper voltage to work. First thing, get a good battery in it(one that cranks every time). This will keep the sensor from losing its memory. Then, with a new battery in, it will either smooth out or you will need to reset the tps yourself. Easy enough, just turn the key to position 2 for approx 2 minutes. Assuming everthing works properly, the sensor will learn its endstops on its own. If you stll are having issues, then have the dealer check it when they scan for codes. Also, the wrench flashing at you is the maintenance indicator, so you might want to have that done as well. Never hurts when you've just bought a vehicle.
