Question about 2004 Chevrolet Venture Passanger

1 Answer

Chevy venture transmission

Transmission struggles to go from 1st to 2nd. It will rev but not advance. If I pull off accelerator and then retry it will advance... drives beautifully otherwise. Seems to drive somewhat better after driving for extended lengths of time. Fluid looks and smells fine. has 127k miles on it.

If I floor it, i cannot get to second gear. Overall the van seems to have normal power. I did read read something about vacuum as it relates to transmission modulator and the throttle. It does sort of feel like the throttle gets stuck or it is going into neutral. I drove it yesterday with NO problems but the day before the wife had all kinds of fits with it (she has a "heavy foot").

First off this year and model GM product has no transmission vacuum modulator, the transmission is completely controlled by a microprocessor called the PCM. As for the shift issue only a few things can cause this, first and most common is low fuel pump pressure due to a clogged filter or a failing fuel pump inside the fuel tank. Next is restricted air flow to the engine or a defective Mass Airflow sensor

Continued> lastly is a restricted exhaust system flow from the engine, this would be due to a failed catalytic converter it is uncommon unless the car has had an impact from something that was run over and broke the catalyst ceramic honeycomb. DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS BASED ON MY GUESSES! HAVE IT CHECKED OUT.

iF THE TRANMSSION SHIFT UP WHEN YOU LET UP ON THE GAS PEDAL THEN THE ABOVE LISTED POSSIBLE PROBLEMS ARE VERY LIKELY THE CUASE. If all checks ok then the transmission is failing or the wiring to it or the PCM may be defective.

IT IS NOT GOING INTO NEUTRAL. IT HAS LOST THE DIRECT DRIVE CLUTCH PACK INTERNALLY. SOUNDS LIKE IT IS HIGH MILEAGE. IF SO AND YOU CHANGE THE FLUID IT CLEANS UP ALL THE VARNISH IN THE TRANNY AND THE END RESULT IS TRANNY MALFUNCTIONS DEPENDING ON WHAT KIND OF CARE IT HAS HAD IN THE PAST.

You might have burned out the transmission plates, try getting the transmission out of the car and inspect the plates inside.

Possible Transmission problem. When gas applied, engine revs but no acceleration. Will accelerate when placed on 2 and L gear. Reverse is fine. Fluid level is full and no visible leaks. Do I need

You might try to get a free scan from Autozone, Oreilys, or Advance autoparts. If their scanners will not show a Code, the more complicated Dealer Scanners may.

Some of the transmissions use shift solenoids. The solenoid for 3rd and 4th gear may be bad. Some use speed sensors which tell the transmission to advance to the higher gears. If you can manually reach 1st and 2nd and reverse, the Torque converter is working and fluid is moving inside the transmission.

I think you can call around to see what other places would charge to put a rebuilt transmission in, if yours can not be fixed.

1999 chevy venture transmission won't change from

I have seen where the power supply to the solenoids is failed. Check the correct wire to verify power at the transmission. The computer will indicate that it is telling the transmission which gear to be in, but the solenoids have no power and cannot actually turn on. This is limp-in mode. It is definitely a power supply issue to the trans solenoids.

I have a chevy venture transmission slip

You can try a fluid and filter change and see if it helps. But from your description, it sounds like it's
time for a rebuilt(or used)transmission. Sorry to be
the bearer of bad news. Good luck.

\'93 Hyundai Lantra, automatic transmission has trouble changing up from 1st to 2nd, it tends to rev on a bit, clunks once or twice before changing to 2nd, other gears seem to be ok. Oil levels are ok and have recently replaced the transmission oil (yes the correct oil was used)

2003 chevy venture transmission slow to shift from 1st to 2nd and then from 2nd to 3rd.

Probably due for a trans service--which is flushing the trans and replacing the trans fluid and filter.

After driveing 1 mile frome cold start van just revs but wont accelerate

Check in your radiator if you don't have transmission fluid in it. And pull the tranny dip stick to see if you don't have water or foam on it. There is a tranny cooler coil inside the radiator to help keep the tranny oil cool. You may have this leaking into the water, if this is the case and you don't take care of it fast it will ruin the tranny too.
I hope this helps.
