Question about 1992 Geo Tracker

1 Answer

Need to replace o-rings on distributor housing of 92 geo tracker.

I don't know if I need to drain oil before removing the distributor housing. I know its on cylinder head but I don't know if oil will come pouring out if I remove it. Also, my haynes manual doesn't give any torque specs for the housing, in fact, doesn't say much of anything about the housing except in the rebuild section says take off three bolts and remove, thats it. Any help?

I have a 1990 Geo. All I need to do is take one bolt out. Make sure you mark where it is and also make sure you observe where the rotor cap is so when you put it back in it's in the same spot. You will have to twist it as it pulls up. Same as when installing it. The oring is located right on the throat of the distributor.

Oil leak on a '92 Geo Tracker. Installed an O Ring, but still leaking. Any suggestions?

O-ring where? The drain plug? Distributor shaft? Or do you mean oil seal?
Geo oil drain plug specifies a compressible copper ring washer I think? Need to clean the surfaces well, and torque to spec. My own plug's seal is not perfect, but only a drop here and there usually. Autozone or NAPA can supply you a new plug and washer if needed.

Oil leak? pan or valve cover? placed cardboard template under oil pan-shows oil all over area template?

there are only but a few leak points, on this water cooled engine.
  1. valve cover gasket tops list.
  2. the 2 distributor o-rings, leaks down bell housing.
  3. or the distributor base housing not mounted and sealed by the book. (need book?)
  4. front cam seal (cover off look)?
  5. front crank seal (or the bolt was never set to 94ft/lbs, torque. 17mm head bolt.
  6. pan never leaks its glued on day one in the Cami factory with RTV, unless prev. owner fiddled with it. (new oil pump done wrong)
  7. last it the rear oil seal, rear to leak.

there are only 2 way sto find leaks, get it clean, drive short distance.
see what leaks.
use the dye kit, a kit with UV lamp and dye, pack.

id do a #! valve cover, the 60k mile inspection , adds one, and most of these cars get on 60k service, ever , so the gaskets are all hard.
and useless on every one ive ever seen.

see oll behind here>?

Oil leak at distributor honda accord 1992 exi

You will need to remove the distributor and replace the o-ring which is on the distributor housing. The oring is what seals the oil from the cylinder head.
Let me know if you need more information.

I don't know of any free downloadable manuals out there but you could call salvage yards around your area and see if they can get one out of any wrecks or call your local GM dealership and get the phone # to GM customer assitance maybe they can help. All of the trackers that I worked on at the dealership I never seen a white button it doesn't sound like it is a factory installed button.THe gearshifter light is a bulb either a 194 or 168 pull up the housing after removing screws and replace bulb. GOOD LUCK
