No. The temperature can far exceed what the muffler wrap is designed for and will quickly burn off. I sounds like you may need a new cat. I have seen under certain conditions, a cat get so hot that it actually was glowing red like you put a torch to it. If I were to try anything and I really wouldn't, I would try header wrap because it is designed to withstand temperatures in the range of 1,000 degrees.Your cat is probably rusting out.

2000 Town Car - 3 codes (P0307 - I believe misfire on #7) but P0430 & P0442 I don't know

P0430 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2) Indicates Bank 2 catalyst system efficiency is below the acceptable threshold.
  • Use of leaded fuel
  • Damaged HO2S
  • Malfunctioning ECT
  • High fuel pressure
  • Damaged exhaust manifold
  • Damaged catalytic converter
  • Oil contamination
  • Cylinder misfiring
  • Downstream HO2S wires improperly connected
  • Damaged exhaust system pipe
  • Damaged muffler/tailpipe assembly
  • Retarded spark timing
Compare HO2S upstream & downstream switch rate. Under normal closed loop fuel conditions, high efficiency catalysts have oxygen storage which makes the switching frequency of the downstream HO2S quite slow compared to the upstream HO2S. As catalyst efficiency deteriorates, its ability to store oxygen declines and the downstream HO2S signal begins to switch more rapidly approaching the switching rate of the upstream HO2S. Once beyond an acceptable limit the DTC is set. Catalytic converter bad !

P0442 - EVAP Control System Leak Detected (Small Leak) The PCM monitors the complete EVAP control system for presence of a small fuel vapor leak. The system failure occurs when a fuel vapor leak from an opening as small as 1.016 mm (0.04 inch) is detected by the EVAP running loss monitor test.
  • After-market EVAP hardware (such as fuel filler cap) non-conforming to required specifications
  • Small holes or cuts in fuel vapor hoses/tubes
  • Canister vent solenoid stays partially open on closed command
  • Damaged, cross-threaded or loosely installed fuel filler cap
  • Loose fuel vapor hose/tube connections to EVAP system components
  • EVAP system component seals leaking (EVAP canister purge valve, fuel tank pressure sensor, canister vent solenoid, fuel vapor control valve tube assembly or fuel vapor vent valve assembly)

What is proper way to install muffler tape

Generally you wrap the tape around the pipe and then use a flex clamp for a radiator hose to keep it in place.

Sounds like a hole in the muffler but coming from front end

Probably your exhaust manifold has a hole. You can use muffler repair putty on it or have it replaced.

The clamps on my exhaust rusted out. Do I have to replace the whole exhaust?

No just take the old clamps off, Purchase some muffler tape and new clamps. Then wrap the joint where clamp was with muffler tape and then put the clamp on and you should be all set.
The muffler tape is only used to help prevent an exhaust leak at that joint.
However you may want to examine the muffler itself since they have a tendency of rusting out very quickly.
I hope this has helped you. If you need any further help let me know. Thanks

Car idles rough in park also runs rough in overdrive

Sometimes a rough idle like that is a fuel filter. As you've already done the plugs and wires the fuel filter would be my next bet.

I have a strong exhaust smell- a put-put noise coming from under the hood- took to muffler guy, not the muffler

most likely (since it is not the muffler) is the donut where the ezhaust pipe hooks onto the exaust manifold....or the manifold cracked or needing a new gasket

Check engine and cats system foult what is cats system mean

this is short for ?Catalytic Converter?, these clean the exhaust up and are mounter before the muffler just off the exhaust manifolds. Remember from chemistry, a Catalyst is something that creates/facilitates a chemical reaction but is not part of the that reaction.

I have a 2001 Chrysler Sebring 3.0 it has started to run hot I noticed that the cooling fans dont seem to come on unless I turn on the AC is there a temperature sensor and where is it located

Your on the right track, its usually screwed into the intake manifold.Buy the new one so you can see what it looks like. Usually they are unpainted brass.
Have the new on ready to install as soon as you pull the old one out so you dont lose much coolant.Have some paper towels right at the hole so you dont make a big mess. Hand tighten ONLY until your sure you have it theaded in correctly then snug it up with a socket. You might want to put about 3 wraps of teflon tape on the new one to be sure it dont weep.
Do this with a cold motor in a shady place and dont be in a hurry.
I hope this helps you.
