My ford escort 1976 1.3 kent motor has a flat spot

My escort has a flat spot even though i have fitted an electronic distributor, and overhauled the carb and the engine.

If the water pump is pumping you should be able to see moving water/engine coolant in the radiator when the radiator cap is removed and the thermostat is open.
Have you checked to see if your electric cooling fan is operating properly?

I agree, jumped timing. Check to make sure the dist is tight. Than check for tdc on the #1 cylinder. When the #1 cyl is TDC the rotor should be pointing to that wire on the cap. Take the cap off while checking. Also is easier to turn motor by hand without plugs in motor.

Yes it is the starter motor, remove it and check, you probabley will have to replace the starter Bendix.

Yes, All the years of the ZX2 utilize the same engine. 1998-2003 are all the same except for ECU programing and the MAF wiring. You should not have a problem.

89 ford escort wont start after changing the ignition switch


The last escort I worked on had the identical problem . The solution was the distributor module had burnt out. This is the flat, black, electronic module, next to cap. Has 2-4 screws and requires dielectrical grease on the underside for isolation. Has flat bar connector which has 4+ connector pins. Car will turn over, but will not start. Replace this module for about $25-30 at most parts stores.

I recently overhauled my jetta 2 1.8 motor. tdc are all in the right place.I am not sure the position of the distributor ? it does start but have dead spot when pulling of.


With the #1 at TDC Compression, the distributor rotor should be more or less in line with the locating cut-out piece in the distributor body. From there, the nearest lead tower will be #1 and the rest follow in the firing order in a clockwise order. Flat spots are normally attributed to fuel not getting into the manifold at the moment the throttle is opened ie. the accelerator pump on a carb model.

it will say boshc or Motorcraft on the distirbutor...u may have to clean it with carb spray on the aluminum part

I have a 73 ford 1.6 industrial motor. need electronic distributo


Look on E-bay for an electronic CD unit that fires from the original points, but generates about 400 volts to fire the standard coil. My guess is that there is no all-electronic ignition system available even as a racing option. Ford used this engine in the Pinto line of cars from`'71 to `73, and all of them used points and condenser distributors. The points and condenser units work fine if in good order and the point gap set at .025". Hope this gives you an assist!

Ford Fiesta Mk1/2 1.0/1.1. Grab the coil dizzy and vac hose - look online for wiring, very simple.

Require ford escort rs 2000 1976 torque settings head bolts


2lt overhead cam with them horrible tappet adjusters,cast iron head but valves dont hit the head if the timing belt breaks ,but it does on the 1600 .called a pinto in america .Remember the assembly line well ,have many a fond memory of working on it and the staff canteen on night shift ,what lovely grub we got.Head bolt torque is about 80lbs because i used to pull them down to check them after the machine had tightened them up

The only thing in the chain you haven't done yet is the pulse transducer in the distributor. I don't know if it is at fault since they often fail completely, not intermittently, but I would probably replace that too if it was my problem.
Before you do that though, it would be wise to locate the connectors that are surely between the transducer and the rest of the ignition system.  The voltages & currents that are produced by the transducer are small and a lightly corroded connection could cause the kind of problem you are having.
