It is called pulse. Lack of pulse to the injectors is a wiring problem or a Powertrain control module problem. You should have 12 volts to one side of each injector with key turned to run, do you?
This can be from a fuel pump that doesnt pressure up sufficiently to a crank sensor peak voltage not seen by the ECM, to just a need for maintance like a tune up which includes a fuel filter
i know for sure that you need to remove the timing belt, which is not fun on this vehicle. While you are there you may want to replace the timing belt, water pump, cam and crank seals timing belt tensioner and idler.
It could be the cold air temperature sensor more or less works like a choke also it could be the fuel pump or fuel filter Is clogged also could be corroded or cracked vacuum Lines causing it to **** air you will need to determine if gas is getting the fuel bar
my beetle is fairly stubburn....for example: i tried cranking it with the alam going off and after five times the alarm cut itself off, then i started it and drove off. but that clearly is no valet over-ride because the second and third time didnt work. second time i unlocked the hatchh back and the assenger door and started the engine and it worked. third time....well...still trying.!!
