I had my Volvo at the mechanic recently and he mentioned that the connection to the turbo had fallen off. He said it was quite common, there is a small pin that holds the connection in place and the pin gets rusty and breaks. He didn't even charge for it, said the fix only took a few minutes. Hi I have a shogun sport 2.5 classic on an 03 plate..engine is knackered.. So got either rebuilt or to be there a better mitusbushi engine I can put in...2.5 seemed underpowered...lots of...

A 2.5 in good condition is reasonably good in a shogun. I don't know of another Mitzi engine that would fit to all the 2.5's mounts/electrics etc. There are hundreds of them in the breakers yards, look out for a low mileage one with body damage and get the engine, preferably see it running first. You say its knackered but have you done an extensive assessment of what is actually worn? Sometimes poor running is only worn injectors, low turbo pressure etc.

check that the variable blades in the turbine housing are free to move with the actuator working correctly. These move to direct the exhaust gas onto the turbine wheel at low engine RPM to reduce the lag time for a turbo to respond. If they are stuck or the actuator is not working (hard leaking vacuum hose) then it will not allow quick response at low speeds

Landrover discovery 1998 td300 down on power

black smoke is an indication of not enough air for the fuel setting
that is from either a air leak in the intercooler or split pipes from the turbo to the manufold
turbo units will have up/down movement as there is clearance in the bushes but as indications are that the turbine is not spinning free enough I would be having the turbo serviced or replaced

Hi, I have a 1992 Toyota 4runner, new 2.8L Diesel engine, with turbo installed in it. It also has a lift kit with fairly large tyres fitted. My question is, is there a reason to why the car feels very...

the japanese have only just started to make a decent diesel its no wonder your old toyota is gutless, even with a turbo.(check out its bhp/torque figures) only option is check out a website called "diesel",(or others),and fit a small black box that can give you an uplift in power......

The actuator only opens when maximun set boost has been achieved. the actuator lets exhaust gas bypass the turbo once it has reached its pressure. check for vacuum leaks, cracks in the intake piping.

My car wont start, 1997 vauxhall astra 1.7 turbo diesel

This sounds like a problem in the fuel shut off circuit. When you turn the key on, it energizes the fuel shut off solenoid on the injection pump. When you turn off the key, power is removed and the pump is moved by spring to the fuel off position. Check for power at this terminal when you are having a problem, ( with the key on) If no power then I would check the wiring and connectors from this connection to the Ignition key. I believe it is wired direct. That can be checked at

subscribe3 and get a wiring schematic for the car and see if it is wired direct to the ign switch of from a relay, I am sure it is a connection problem if you have no power.

A 1.7 diesel even if turboed, is dead slow in any vehicle let alone a van. Enjoy the fuel economy

good luck
