The vehicle for Sharpie is alcohol. Using a Q tip or swab wetted with denatured alcohol, test it on an inconspicuous area of the plastic to make sure it won't effect the finish first, then gently attempt to erase the marks. It may require several applications depending on the porosity of the plastic. Some plastics will absorb the ink too deeply for removal by this method.

On my 1999 grand caravan the panel lights are out, as well as license plate light and running lights (front and back), yet the turn signals work as do the brake lights. All fuses I can find look ok. ...

It sounds like you have a bad connection where the plastic surround connects to the lighting switches. That piece from the central console to ring the upper part of the dash has to be removed and use electrical contact cleaner and plug them back in. There are three different connectors on the extreme left side of this plastic surround. Start by removing the plastic shroud under the steering column, unscrew the plastic shroud at the parking brake and then start on the upper hard plastic surround from the center console and remove the screw next to the grill adjacent the door (driver's side). Once the screws are removed, the hard plastic piece just pops out. (Remember, to remove the screws on the cover over the steering wheel; 2 to 4 screws as I remember... it also pops out in an upward direction. (Check any electrical relays as well.)

I cant get the retaining ring on the headlight bulb to turn so i can replace the head light. its a 1995 honda accord.

Spray VERY lightly some WD-40 around the bulb where the ring is holding it down. Wait about 2 minutes. Wiggle the ring by hand. If it still doesn't come loose, use a flat screwdriver on the edge ridges of the ring. Bump (hard) the screwdriver with the ball of your other hand or another tool to turn the ring. Before you put the new light-bulb in the hole, use a towel to wipe any WD-40 off of the ring or the hole. If any gets on the new bulb, it will shorten its life. Hopefully you are changing both bulbs and KEEP the one that was still working as an emergency spare. Sharpie LOW on the plastic socket, wrap it in a paper towel and keep in the trunk.

My driver side door rattles on 1993 ford bronco but it shuts.

There should be a gray plastic bushing sleeve on the striker post. These wear out, break and fall off. Compare it to the passenger side as they last a lot longer. Normally you can get a pair of replacements for 5 bucks in the HELP section at auto parts stores. The striker bolt is something like a torx T40 or T45 and just comes out like a regular bolt.

Trace around the bolt location with a sharpie before you remove it so you can reinstall it at the exact original location.

If the latch is badly worn you may have to move the bolt in some to tighten up the door when it is closed.

How do I replace tailgate handle on 2005 avalanche

1. Remove third panel, open tailgate, observe the five torx bolts.

2. Remove the two outer torx bolts.

3. Close tailgate, remove handle bezel. The bottom is held on with two plastic "Fir tree" pins.

4. Open taligate, remove the three remaining torx bolts, close tailgate.

5. Observe that there are two plastic ScotchLock type items that hold the latch actuator rods. Color the exposed threads with a Sharpie for ease of re-assembly.

6. Open the two plastic actuator rod holders and remove the handle assembly.

7. Install the new part and secure the three bolts.

8. Install the actuator rods in the clips, leaving the previously exposed threads, ummm, exposed.

9. Verify proper operation of latches with the third panel installed.

10. Install bezel and two retaining bolts.

Here's another version of replacing it that another guy modified from the above instructions....

I broke the back latch on mine and had to change it. A couple of changes I would make to the instructions are:

1. forget about the third panel, whatever that is, unless it's another way of saying "tailgate"

2. unsscrew the two outer bolts on the inside of the tailgate and close tailgate.

3. pull off plastic cover, bottom fasteners like said above are "pine trees", just pull straight out

4. the actuator rods are just snapped in, BEFORE doing anything else, mark the edge of the fastener, and more importantly

5. TIE a string, or use a long piece of tape on each rod so that when you undo the fasters for the rods, the rods don't fall down to the bottom of the tailgate. I actually used alligator clips off a multitester as they were handy, but you get the idea.

6. loosen the three bolts holding the handle in (don't remove them, so it doesn't torque over when you start in on the last), when all are loose, remove the three bolts, and disconnect the actuator clips. I could do this with my fingers, and it helped to have the bolts out so you could wiggle it a bit for a better grip.

7. you can now remove the handle by rotating it clockwise and pulling outward a bit on the tight spots of the tailgate.

8. intstall by working backwards up this list, the only other thing is for the right actuator rod, I held it with a needle nose pliers to get it into position.

Hope this helps, and it's not really a bad job.

Instrument panel removal

I suggest you invest in a 1 year subscription to www.alldatadiy.com It is what I used when I disassembled the dash on my car, and is way better than a paper manual. Another tip is to keep some zip lock bags, and a sharpie handy, and seperate and label all hardware that you remove to help your reassembly

How do i remove the heater core for a 2006 honda element?

Hi:
Removing the heater core is quite a project, and I suggest you spend a little money and get step by step instructions at www.alldatadiy.com

I have a subscription for my Honda, and it helped alot.

When you are dissassembling your Element, have a sharpie and some sandwitch bags handy, and as you remove hardware for a certain part, bag it and label it, for installation ease.
