Question about 1994 GMC Jimmy

94 Jimmy RPM's rise, won't shift!

No whining or grinding, tranny service did not help. seems to be stuck in second gear. Even at high RPM's, gears will not engage. I believe it to be an electrical issue rather than mechanical.

What tranny do you have....if its the 4L60e then you more than likely have a bad sensor on the transmission

2005 jeep grand cherokee laredo transmission shifting problems

  • A/T or M/T (auto or stick, gee)
  • if A/T is this the 42RE box>? are you in DRIVE? or 1 or 2 gear.
  • does rpm rise above 3000 rpm > at your attempt? if not ,its a bad engine (weak)
  • is the shift linkage even shifting correctly (movement top and bottom)
  • check levels yet. (and for pink ./red AFT not black-metal flake
  • change the filter yet? or skip service. at 50k miles. ?????

  • using a basic OBD2 scan tool are there any tranny DTC errors?>
  • does the FSM stall test pass? in 1st.? and reverse?
  • if stall fails, slips , then tranny bad. if not its really stuck in 1st gear.
The TCM commads the gear change, there is no valve body brain.
the TCM shifts to second with good inputs to the TCM
if the TCM sees bad inputs it will tell you, SCAN IT.

5th gear shifter linkage reverse

can i assume you pulled the side plug on tranny and the level
is right there? or gone way down, ever do a 50k service? to it?

M/T tranny (not auto) what engine? the m./t varies by HP of ENGINE.
If its really in 5th ( i bet not)
if the RPM rises fast that is called clutch slip
yes, clutch bad.
if not in 5th actual rpm will rise fast too. slip,
if the other gears wroke like 4th at wide open throttle up hill
gee the chutch is good.
so its not going in to 5th (for lots of reasons)
but 1 reason , is easy.

this tranny has a shift tower. (that thing on top that the shifter lever
fits in to)
most tranny that fail to actual shift into gear
is caused by a $1 plastic part failure
so pull the shifter off top of the shift tower.
and look, is the plastic buffer parts all bad, missing, cracked or
destoryed, sure they all end there... all.
i can also remove the shifter, lever.
and shift to 5ht by hand, and see that it DOES.
it either does, or does not.
if it does, the lever parts are bad.
that simple.
see part 61 (im guessing which of 5 tranny it is , )

P0756 code Honda accord 2005

P0756all p07 codes are tranny.

  • Shift Solenoid 'B' Stuck Off (read the FSM page on 756 it tells you how to do the checks )

  • if 756 is cleared. (reset it using the scan tool, drive 20 miles, still set?)?

    if you get them clear, all DTCs
    do the tranny stall test. stated n the FSM.
    stall the torque converter. in 1st gear, parked.
    if rpm is too low the engine has power issues
    if Rpm is way too high (slip?) bad tranny. (or wires to it)

    94 toyota is over 3000 rpm at 40 mph

    95 dodge dakota having hard time shifting.

    Try a tranny service change a place that changes the filter the pan gasket and fluid not some of these quick places that just drain a couple quarts out of the tranny lines and thats it that wont help but a complete tranny service should help.

    2nd gear crunch

    first of all you shouldn't be reving that high to change gears. that's too high. secondly if it's grinding only during the change from 1st to 2nd gear you may have a problem with the gears not being aligned synchronizers worn out, bearings worn out, etc. take to reputable transmission shop to get it diagnosed and repaired. it sounds like the synchronizers are a problem there. and you may have metal in your fluid now that it's been grinding which will affect the rest of the transmission. if you are speed shifting as in racing, you are not doing your transmission any good. you probably don't have a transmission built to do that if it's the original factory tranny... meaning you did a major NO NO to your tranny and are tearing it up speed shifting when it isn't built for racing.
