The gear oil used is 75W90, one of the best synthetic oil out there is Sever Gear 75W90 from Amsoil. There good up to 100,000 miles or 50,000 under sever use, but i don't think your going to be doing that unless your planing to drive your truck like a rig. Good luck and hope this helps.

Yes you need full synthetic oil. It uses 75w-140 weight. About 3 to 3.5 quarts. Charlie

On my 2003 tahao 4.8L 4x4...the pumpkin on the rearend is leaking fluid from the seal and do not know if its synthetic oil or plaiin gear oil. but i have no owners manuel to find type or weight of oil

If you have a positraction unit (both rear wheels turn in the same direction when turned off the ground) You should use synthetic. Otherwise you can use standard 75/90 or 75/140 lube. If it's leaking you may try adding lucas sealer to slow the leak (read instructions for percentage of additive and product application)

Replaced rear axle on a gmc 1500 4by4 with a 3.42 gear ratio as the original .but I noticed that I have to accelarate more just to keep up with trafic, do I have to reprogram the on board computer?

As long as it's the same ratio, it shouldn't effect the computer. I would check the numbers on the rearend to make sure it is the same gear ratio. Or there maybe a problem with the replacement rear end. Is it a locking differential rearend?

What type of gear oil for rear end and how much for 2005 silverado 1500 HD Can I use synth.

The recomended gear oil is 75w90 synthetic. However the capacities
increase with the size of the rear end.
8.6" 2.15qt (2.0L)
10.5+9.5" 2.75QT (2.6L)
9.75" 3QT (2.8L)
11.5" 3.17QT (3.6L)
Hope this helps.

Are the gears in the rearend of a 4x4 truck the

Yes and No. All depends on what was ordered at the factory. They can be the same, but they may be differant. The glove box should have the gear ratios written down on the ID tag.

I was wanting to know what is a good gear oil for the rearend in my 316i

You can find the oil recommedations in the owwners manual or call the dealer, however I like changing all oil with synthetic oil to get the right oil for your differential go tothe parts store and ask them what is recommended, they have charts For the right oil, as each oil manufacture is different.

How much gear lube goes in a 1/2 ton rearend

Three quarts. If it is your first time draining the rear end you should also get a gasket. If you have a limited slip diff then you will need synthetic oil. All in all you should be able to do it for 55- 70 dollars.

there should be a tag on one of the rearend cover bolts indicating the ratio.if not remove cover count all the teeth on the ring gear and pinion, divide the ring gear # by the # of pinion teeth and that will be your ratio.
