CANNOT TURN CAR ON NOW, WHERE IS THE INTERLOCK OVERRIDE SWITCH

We were told Good Year that is our key battery after they ran their diagnotics. We changed it and it is still not working.

Where is the interlock override switch located?

Thanks,

Sounds like you are referring to the transmission interlock switch? This keeps the car from starting if you are not in park.

'94 Avalon. Why won't it turn over?

There isn't a valet switch but you should have a second valet key. That is designed to allow the car to be started and run but will not unlock the trunk or glove box. See if you have a key that is similar but not the same as the other main key and see if you can start it with that. If you have an remote alarm system, that could be interfering with starting. See if you can override the alarm.

Shifter interlock

what car, you never said? NOR YEAR?
park lock out feature;. its broken , they do that. (BTSI system)
got A/T? or M/T both auto and stick shift have lockout.

no car/year, you get the generic answer.
there is a park lockout DEFEATER on most cars, (never on new cars, due to federal bs)

on the shift console, see the defeat device.
the operators guide covers this. its for EMERGENCIES.
pick one.
http://justgivemethedamnmanual.com/jeep/

the A/T box,
Brakes + handle button press, unlocks BTSI

on 2005 and up , no bypass
if the key gets locked too, that tells you what is bad , on newer jeeps
on newer jeeps read this
http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=366251

this feature (pain) has many failure points.
any cable that jams, there are 2 , one to tranny or ignition
switch. and the brake solenoid unlocker in shift handle.
and the button, to unluck shifter, brake switch (no brake lights/)
to diagnosis it is easy , dismantle the console at shifter
then disconnect cables to find if one is stuck, (easy huh?)
and defeat the solenoid, by hand or 12v applied. and check the button
that it does in fact release.
NOT PARK LOCKOUT: (for if not on flat ground?)
reason 2 , driver, parked on a hill with tire to curb and did so
not setting brakes first (or bad ebrake ) and now the tranny parking
pawl is jammed , opps. so wiggle the steering and wiggle shifter,
or have some one push car forward (parked up hill on right) to release
parking pawl. (or gorilla it, ask bubba to muscle it out of park.)
if down hill , well, you get the idea..... pain.. gotta love A/Ts not.
Folks in Sanfranciso, just roll eyes at you, new in town>?

now the grand cherroke,, why not post car model, and year, dang.

quote 2010 oper guide, get one.
Brake/Transmission Interlock Manual Override Your vehicle may be equipped with a shift lock manual override. The manual override may be used in the event that the shift lever should fail to move from PARK with the ignition switch in the ON position and the brake pedal pressed. To operate the shift lock manual override, perform the following steps: 1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position without starting the engine. 2. Firmly set the parking brake. 3. Using a flat-bladed screwdriver, carefully remove the shift lock manual override cover, which is located on the PRNDL bezel. 4. Press and maintain firm pressure on the brake pedal. 5. Using the screwdriver, reach into the manual override opening. Press and hold the shift lock lever down. Interlock Manual Override end quote.
no all jeeps have this,

2004 grand vitara will not start and solenoid will not click, Battery is fine.

Sounds like the ignition interlock at the transmission switch is out of adjustment or faulty. Bypass the key switch, at the starter, if it now cranks, it's in the interlock switch or the ignition switch.

Have 2001 530d bmw. when i turn key nothing happens, not even will turn engine over. battery good all electrics and lights working ok, need help please, suggestions to what is the problem

Start with the safety interlock. If you have an automatic transmission, put your foot on the brake and shift thru the gears while holding the key to start. If the engine cranks, adjust or replace the safety interlock switch.
If you have a standard transmission, remove the cable from the switch above the clutch pedal and connect the terminals in the connector with a paper clip, then push in clutch and try to start. If that works, replace the switch.

If the problem is not the interlock, please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6222268-engine_doesnt_crank_turn_over . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

Our 96 kia sephia won't start although battery is good but stranger, it wont come out of park

there is a problem with your shift interlock switch - the car will not start because it does not recognize that it is in park. look around your shifter - there should be a little plastic cover about the size of a dime somewhere. remove it, and there will either be a button or a switch to turn to override this control. good luck!

My intetlock override switch wont allow me to put me car in drive. i own the 2006 model

You could possibly have a blown fuse, or a bad switch. The shifter interlock is controlled by the computer and it looks inputs from the key transmitting the right code, the ignition switch in the run position, and the brake pedal being pressed. If any one of these signals is missing the computer will not unlock the shifter. Another possible problem could be the interlock mechanism itself, malfunctioning or being damaged in some way. I would reccommend taking it to your local dealer and having it checked out, but only after checking all of your fuses, and the owners manual for other possible problems. One other thing, would be to check the battery in the remote on your key. If it is dead, it may not transmit the code to the computer.

2004 Ford Explorer won't start after battery recharge

A FORD MACHANIC HAS TOLD ME THAT IN FACT THE KEY HAS TO BE RECODED. MY SITUATION IS EXACTLY THE SAME. HE SAID TO RECODE THE KEY I HAD TO TURN THE IGNITION TO THE RUN POSITION, THE SECURITY LIGHT ON THE DASH WILL FLASH RAPIDLY AND CONTINUE TO FLASH FOR 15 MINUTES . WITHIN FIVE MINUTES AFTER THE LIGHT STOPS FLASHING I MUST TURN OFF THE IGNITION FOR ONE SECOND AND TURN IMMEDIATLY BACK TO THE RUN POSITION FOR 15 MORE MINUTES. THE LIGHT WILL GO OFF AGAIN . WITHIN 5 MIN. I MUST TURN OFF THE IGNITION FOR ONE SECOND AND TURN BACK TU RUNNING POSITION. 15 MINUTES LATER REPEAT STEPS AGAIN AND THE KEY WILL BE REPROGRAMMED, AND STSRT THE CAR. GOOD LUCK MY CONTACT IS A FORD MASTER MECHANIC.
