Question about 1988 Cadillac Sedan DeVille

1 Answer

88 cadillac deville, ac blower fan wont shut off, even when car is turned off and key removed. I tried disconnecting the battery to reset the system but it still runs when battery reconnected. Also, car will not start now.

The car finally started after letting it set with the battery disconnected. My initial problem was with the a/c. The compressor would not come on. Usually I can disconnect/reconnect the battery and it would start working again. I was in the process of doing that when I noticed the blower was still running with the ignition turned off. Well, now the car starts, the a/c compressor engages, but the blower does not run.

Ralph,
Most common cause of this is the blower fan (proper name for the fan you refer to) continuing to run is a shorted out Electronic Climate Control Module. This solid state device replaces the older style fan speed resistor block (at about 4 times the price) This unit is found on the top of the HVAC box under the hood. (HVAC means heating, ventilation and air conditioning) The HVAC box is found on the passenger side of the firewall. Look behind the A/C's accumulator. It will have an electrical wiring plug on top of it. It will be fastened to the HVAC box with a few 7mm hex head screws. Very easy to change.
FYI, do yourself a favor and replace the blower fan motor at the same time. The Electronic Climate Control Module usually fails because the motor is drawing to many amps of current. This is because it's bushings are worn out or the brushes are worn out.
This is very common on Cadillacs and Buicks.
Charlie
PS Not sure why car won't start. Either you drained the battery or blew a fuse which controls starting the engine. Need more info regarding the "no start" condition.

Why windshield blower wont shut off

Check to see if it will turn off when you push the AC off button on the left side of the ac control panel. If not - pull the fan relay out of its socket (located under the right side of the insturment panel). It's the middle one at the top. If that works - replace it, as the contacts may be "welded shut".

AC blower will not turn off on 1999 Cadillac Deville?

Are you sure it is the AC blower? a lot of modern cars have a temperature controlled radiator fan, this can run when the engine is very hot , even when the keys are removed. It is a safety feature to protect your engine.

Where the relays ac of a 1995 cadillac deville is locate the blower of the a/c dosen't stop when i turn off the a/c

Hello. Will do my best to help, You have this listed as a 1998 DeVille, in the verbage you say its a 1995. okay if the blower motor continues to run when you turn the key off then regardless of the year model the electronics in the blower motor has failed and it will have to be replaced. If its running with the key off you can disconnect it under the hood. It is located just off center to the driver side. It has a 3 wire connector this will keep the battery from going dead. Hope this helps. Thanks

Follow the wires from the blower motor back to the blower motor resistor, normally only a few inches away and held in by a 7 mm screw. Replace it

2001 cadillac deville security light won't turn off

It should have Turned off with the Insert of the Newly Programmed Key. If Not, It may need a Computer Reset. You Can try Pulling the ECM Fuse for 5 Min. to Reset the Computer. If this does not work, Try disconnecting the Battery and Reconnecting. Make sure that you have a RadioCode before Disconnecting the Battery Though. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!
