I assume you are talking about the fuel rail As far as I know you will have to get it from the dealer. You only need few tools to do this, but a lot of patience. Tools needed are 10 mm socket , ratchet & screw driver,lube for injectors, and fuel line disconnect tool

You need to do a fuel pressure check.. You will need a special fuel gauge and the appropriate fittings and adapters are needed to properly test the fuel pressure.

1. Relieve the fuel pressure.
Remove the fuel pump relay form the Power Distribution Center (PDC) Start the engine and run until it stalls. attempt restating the engine until it will no longer run. Turn the ignition key off. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Replace the fuel pump relay in the PDC. Any if you get any trouble codes at this time you will need to see a shop to have them cleared.

2. Disconnect the quick-connect fuel line fitting fuel gauge into the fuel line using the appropriate T-fitting and adapters.

3. Start the engine and check the pressure on the gauge, your reading should be 49 PSI with the pressure with the engine idling.

4. if the fuel pressure is not 49 PSI:
1) if fuel pressure is higher you could have a pinched of clogged fuel return hose of pipe. if the line is not obstructed check the fuel pressure regulator.
2) if fuel pressure is lower check the fuel filter, look for a pinched of clogged fuel hose between the tank and the fuel rail. check the pressure regulator for malfunctions. Look for leaks in the fuel line.

You should have a test port on the Fuel Supply rail, use a tool from a local auto parts "Tool Loaner program" where you can borrow tools for free,w/a deposit of course,then follow the steps provided;

MPI Fuel System Pressure Test

The MPI fuel system used in vehicles equipped with a 4.OL engine employs a vacuum balanced pressure regulator. Fuel pressure should be approximately 55-69 kPa (8-10 psi) lower with the vacuum line attached to the regulator than with the vacuum line disconnected. System fuel should be 214 kPa (31 psi) with the vacuum line connected to the regulator and 269 kPa (39 psi) with the vacuum line disconnected. CAUTION: Some fuel may be discharged when connecting fuel gauge to fuel rail.
  1. Connect a 0-414 kPa (0-60 psi) fuel pressure gauge to test port pressure fitting on fuel rail (Fig. 7).
  2. Remove vacuum line from pressure regulator.
  3. Start the vehicle.
  4. Note gauge reading. With vacuum line disconnected, fuel pressure should be approximately 269 kPa (39 psi).
  5. Connect vacuum line to pressure regulator. Note gauge reading. Fuel pressure should be approximately 214 kPa (31 psi).
  6. If fuel pressure is not approximately 55-69 kPa (8-10 psi) higher with vacuum line removed from regulator, inspect pressure regulator vacuum line for leaks, kinks or blockage. CAUTION: Fuel pressure will rise to as much as 655 kPa (95 psi) when the fuel return tine is pinched shut, shut engine down immediately after pinching oft fuel return line.
  7. If fuel pressure is low, momentarily pinch shut the hose section of the fuel return line. If fuel pressure remains low, inspect the fuel supply line, fuel filter, and fuel rail inlet for blockage. If fuel pressure rises replace fuel pressure regulator.
  8. If fuel pressure is above specifications, inspect the fuel return line for kinks and blockage.

Capacity Test

  1. Remove the cap from the pressure test port in the fuel rail.
  2. Connect a 0-414 kPa (0-60 psi) fuel pressure gauge to the pressure fitting on the fuel rail (Fig. 7).
  3. Start the vehicle. Pressure should be approxi- mately 214 kPa (31 psi) with the vacuum hose connected to the pressure regulator and 269 kPa (39 psi) with the vacuum hose removed from the pressure regulator.
  4. If the pressure is not to specification, check the following before replacing the fuel pressure regulator:
  • 4a - Inspect the fuel supply and return lines/hoses for kinks or restricting bends
  • 4b - Check the fuel pump flow rate. A good fuel pump will deliver at least 1 liter of fuel per minute with the fuel return line pinched off. If the fuel pump does not pump adequately, then inspect the fuel system for a plugged fuel filter or fuel pump inlet filter (sock). Fuel pump flow rate can be done by connecting one end of an old A/C gauge hose to the fuel test port on the fuel rail and inserting the other end of the hose into a container of at least 1 liter capacity. Run the fuel pump by installing a jumper wire into diagnostic connector terminals D1-5 and D1-6. Be sure to pinch off the fuel return line or most of the fuel will be returned to the fuel tank.

sounds like the injector sleeve O rings have failed this was common.
if you put a clear plastic piece of hose on supply line for diesel fuel filter to head fitting at front and fuel is not black but normal diesel colour thats good.
then put clear hose on return line fitting at rear of cylinder head and fuel is now darker, engine oil is by passing injector sleeve top O rings and entering into fuel gallery in head.
rocker cover, injector rail, injectors need removing and injector sleeves need replacing as well as O rings and seats.
a special tool is needed to remove the injector sleeves out of the head. you will also need to drain the cooling system before removing the injector sleeves, so coolant is also needed.
dealers have special tool for injector sleeves

There is only 4 vacuum lines on that engine

1- brake booster line

2- purge line to purge solenoid (top center of throttle body)

3- PCV hose. run straight from PCV to side of intake at base of throttle body

4- fuel pressure regulator line (short small diameter hose runs from #6 intake runner to fuel pressure regulator

5- tube that connects front cam cover to rear cam cover to improve vapor venting

My 1990 chrysler imperial will idle fine but it dies when you give it gas.I changed the fuel pump and both computers and i'm still having the problem.


Sounds as though it may be your fuel pressure regulator. Easy fix and you can troubleshoot it easily also. Check the fuel pressure first. This is your part....

TESTING Except Premier and Monaco NOTE: To perform this test, you will need a pressure gauge capable of reading pressures above 55 psi (379 kPa). The gauge must have a connection that will fit the fuel rail service valve. The gauge must be the equivalent of Chrysler pressure gauge No. C-4799 and the connector fitting compatible with pressure test adapter 6539. You may also need a T and the fittings necessary to connect the gauge into the fuel supply line at the tank, as well as a 2 gallon container suitable for collecting fuel.
  1. Release the fuel system pressure as described in Section 1.
  2. Disconnect and plug the vacuum line going to the fuel pressure regulator.
  3. Remove fuel hose quick connector from the chassis line.
  4. Install the adapter between the fuel supply hose and chassis fuel line assembly for the 3.0L engines or into the service port of the fuel rail for 3.3L and 3.8L engines.
  5. Hold the gauge and have someone start the engine. Run the engine at idle speed in Neutral (manual transaxles) or Park (automatic transaxles). CAUTION
    Exercise extreme caution while under the hood with the engine running. Keep clear of all moving belts, fans, exhaust manifolds, etc.
  6. Read the pressure. It should be 48 psi (330 kPa). If it is outside the range, take note of it.
  7. Stop the engine.
  8. Once again depressurize the system, disconnect the gauge and replace the protective cover.
  9. If the pressure was correct, the test is complete. If the pressure is below the range, proceed with the next step; if it is too high, skip to Step 13. WARNING
    In the next step, note that fuel may drain from the lines as you disconnect them. Make sure all surrounding exhaust system parts are cool and that all sources of ignition are removed from the area. Collect fuel and dispose of it safely.
  10. Connect the gauge into the fuel supply line running between the tank and the filter which is located at the rear of the vehicle. WARNING
    Make sure all connections are secure.
  11. Have an assistant start the engine, then read the pressure gauge. If the pressure has risen more than 5 psi (35 kPa), replace the filter. If the pressure is now within range, allow the engine to cool and remove all sources of ignition; depressurize the system; disconnect the gauge from the lines; replace the fuel filter; and restore all connections.
  12. If the pressure is still too low, gently and gradually pinch the fuel return line closed as you watch the gauge. If the pressure increases, the fuel pressure regulator is at fault. If there is no change, the problem is either clogging of the filter sock mounted on the pump or a defective pump itself.
  13. If the pressure is too high, follow this procedure:
    1. Shut off the engine and allow it to cool.
    2. Depressurize the fuel system, then disconnect the fuel return hose at the chassis, near the fuel tank.
    3. Connect a 3 ft. (91cm) length of hose to the open end of the line running along the chassis. Position the open end of the line into a container suitable for collecting fuel.
    4. Have a helper start the engine, then check the pressure again. If it is now correct, check the in-tank fuel return hose for kinking.
    5. If the in-tank fuel return hose is okay, and the system still exhibits excessive pressure with the tank half full or more, the fuel pump reservoir check valve or aspirator jet may be obstructed and the assembly must be replaced.
  14. If the pressure is still too high, perform the following:
    1. Shut the engine OFF, and allow it to cool.
    2. Depressurize the system once again and reconnect the fuel lines at the rear.
    3. Disconnect the fuel return hose at the pressure regulator. Collect all fuel that drains.
    4. Run the open connection into a large metal container.
    5. Reconnect the fuel gauge to the fuel rail.
    6. Start the engine and repeat the test. If the fuel pressure is now correct, clean a clogged return line or replace pinched or kinked sections of the return line. If no such problems exist, replace the fuel pressure regulator.
Premier and Monaco CAUTION
Wear eye protection when servicing the fuel system. Do not smoke or allow open flame near fuel system components during fuel system service.
  1. Remove the fuel tank filler cap to relieve the fuel tank pressure. NOTE: System fuel pressure will be released when disconnecting the fuel supply tube. Have shop towels handy to absorb spilled fuel.
  2. Use the quick disconnect tool 6182, or equivalent, to remove the black fuel supply tube from the fuel rail. Slide the tool over the nipple and up into the connector until the handle fits the connector. Pull the fuel supply tube off the fuel rail.
  3. Install the fuel tube pressure adapter tool 6175, or equivalent.
  4. Push the female end with the quick-connect fitting over the fuel rail until a click is heard. Pull the connector back to ensure that it is locked in place.
  5. Push the male end with the nipple into the black fuel supply tube until a click is heard. Pull the nipple back to ensure that it is locked in place.
  6. Attach a 0–60 psi (0–415 kPa) gauge from the fuel pressure test kit 5069, or equivalent, to the port on the fuel tube pressure adapter tool.
  7. Start the engine and check the fuel pressure. It should be 28–30 psi (193–207 kPa) for early models and 43 psi (300 kPa) for late models. The fuel pressure regulator on these vehicles is non-adjustable.
  8. If the fuel pressure is low, check for fuel flow through the return tube.
    1. If fuel is returning to the fuel tank through the fuel return tube, replace the fuel pressure regulator with a new one.
    2. If the fuel is not returning to the fuel tank or just trickling out, inspect for a faulty fuel pump, possible clogged fuel filter or other restriction between the fuel pressure regulator and the fuel pump.
  9. If the fuel pressure is high, check the pressure regulator vacuum hose for leaks, and for a kink or restriction in the fuel return hose. If the pressure regulator vacuum hose is not leaking, the return tube is not kinked and does not have a restriction, the fuel pressure regulator should be replaced with a new one.
  10. Remove the pressure gauge.
  11. Disconnect the fuel tube pressure adapter tool with the quick disconnect tool.
  12. Prior to installing the fuel tubes to the regulator and fuel rail the tube ends must be lightly lubricated with clean SAE 30 weight engine oil. Refer to the procedures describing the removal and installation of the fuel tubes.
  13. Install the black fuel supply tube to the fuel rail and the gray fuel return tube to the pressure regulator.
  14. Install the fuel tank filler cap.
  15. Start the vehicle and check for fuel leaks. NOTE: When starting the engine, allow extra time for the system to pressurize itself.

I suspect fuel pump problem how do I check fuel pressure, what tools do I need


There should be a Schrader valve on the fuel rail (looks like a valve stem on a tire, it is metal).

You need to connect a fuel pressure gauge to that valve and do the following test:

  1. Relieve fuel pressure.
  2. Remove the 12 mm sealing nut from the fuel rail. Attach the fuel pressure adapter nut, 12 mm (90201 - P0A - 003) and the special tool.
  3. Start the engine. Measure the fuel pressure with the engine idling and the vacuum hose of the fuel pressure regulator disconnected from the fuel pressure regulator and pinched. If the engine will not start, turn the ignition switch on, wait for two seconds, turn it off, then back on again and read the fuel pressure. Pressure should be: 260 - 310 kPa (2.7 - 3.2 kgf/sq.cm, 38 - 48 psi)
  4. Reconnect vacuum hose to the fuel pressure regulator. Pressure should be: 210 - 250 kPa (2.1 - 2.8 kgf/sq.cm, 30 - 37 psi) If the fuel pressure is not as specified, first check the fuel pump. If the fuel pump is OK, check the following:
    • If the fuel pressure is higher than specified, inspect for:
    • Pinched or clogged fuel return hose or line.
    • Faulty fuel pressure regulator.
    • If the fuel pressure is lower than specified, inspect for:
    • Clogged fuel filter.
    • Faulty fuel pressure regulator.
    • Fuel line leakage.

Chevy s-10 repair problems


You must be careful if you are going to cut and use a union with flaring tool to repair that you make sure the repair when tightened is straight or it will leak and if it leaks well you know the rest, you must aquire a heavy tubing cutter a union after measuring the tube and a flaring tool this may be more expensive than just replacing the kinked hose these systems are under high pressure between 30-40 psi so a simple rubber hose with a hose clamp will not hold the pressure don't waste your time with that. Jack up the vehicle support with jack stands and follow the steel hose to see where it conects to the steel fuel hose that goes along the floor of the vehicle hopefully there is a place to unscrew stock unoin and replace the line or remove to repaire with said flaring tool and coupler.

PS follow the instructions of flaring to the letter or leak may result, as always wear safety glasses gasoline in the eyes really sucks.

1999 jeep cherokee do you have to remove the fuel pump to replace


The combination Fuel Filter/Fuel Pressure Regulator is located on the fuel pump module. The fuel pump module is located on top of fuel tank.

The filter/regulator may be removed without removing fuel pump module although fuel tank must be removed.

REMOVAL
  1. Remove fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Removal/Installation.
  2. Clean area around filter/regulator.
  3. Disconnect fuel line at filter/regulator. Refer to Quick-Connect Fittings for procedures.
  4. Remove retainer clamp from top of filter/regulator. Clamp snaps to tabs on pump module. Discard old clamp.
  5. Pry filter/regulator from top of pump module with 2 screwdrivers. Unit is snapped into module
  6. Discard gasket below filter/regulator.
    1. Before discarding filter/regulator assembly, inspect assembly to verify that O-rings are intact. If the smallest of the two O-rings can not be found on bottom of filter/regulator, it may be necessary to remove it from the fuel inlet passage in fuel pump module.
    INSTALLATION
    1. Clean recessed area in pump module where filter/regulator is to be installed.
    2. Obtain new filter/regulator (two new O-rings should already be installed)
    3. Apply a small amount of clean engine oil to O-rings. Do not install O-rings separately into fuel pump module. They will be damaged when installing filter/regulator.
    4. Install new gasket to top of fuel pump module.
    5. Press new filter/regulator into top of pump module until it snaps into position (a positive click must be heard or felt).
    6. The arrow molded into top of fuel pump module should be pointed towards front of vehicle (12 O'clock position).
    7. Rotate filter/regulator until fuel supply tube (fitting) is pointed towards front of vehicle (12 O'clock position).
    8. Install new retainer clamp (clamp snaps over top of filter/regulator and locks to flanges on pump module).
    9. Connect fuel line at filter/regulator. Refer to Quick-Connect Fittings for procedures.
    10. Install fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Removal/Installation.
WARNING: THE FUEL SYSTEM IS UNDER CONSTANT FUEL PRESSURE EVEN WITH THE ENGINE OFF. THIS PRESSURE MUST BE RELEASED BEFORE SERVICING FUEL TANK .

Two different procedures may be used to drain fuel tank (lowering tank or using DRB scan tool).

The quickest draining procedure involves lowering the fuel tank.

As an alternative procedure, the electric fuel pump may be activated allowing tank to be drained at fuel rail connection. Refer to DRB scan tool for fuel pump activation procedures. Before disconnecting fuel line at fuel rail, release fuel pressure. Refer to the Fuel System Pressure Release Procedure for procedures. Attach end of special test hose tool number 6541, 6539, 6631 or 6923 at fuel rail disconnection (tool number will depend on model and/or engine application). Position opposite end of this hose tool to an approved gasoline draining station. Activate fuel pump and drain tank until empty.

If electric fuel pump is not operating, tank must be lowered for fuel draining. Refer to following procedures.

FUEL TANK REMOVAL
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable at battery.
  2. Release fuel system pressure. Refer to the Fuel System Pressure Release.
  3. Raise and support vehicle.
  4. If Equipped: Remove fuel tank skid plate.
  5. Remove 4 fuel hose shield mounting bolts and remove fuel hose shield from body.
    1. Remove fuel tank fill hose and vent hose clamps at fuel tank filler tube. Remove both hoses at fuel filler tube.
    2. Remove exhaust tailpipe heat shield mounting bolts and remove shield. CAUTION: To protect fuel tank from exhaust heat, this shield must reinstalled after tank installation.
    3. Place a hydraulic jack to bottom of fuel tank. WARNING: PLACE A SHOP TOWEL AROUND FUEL LINES TO CATCH ANY EXCESS FUEL .
      1. Disconnect fuel supply line from fuel extension line near front of fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tubes/Lines/Hoses and Clamps. Also refer to Quick-Connect Fittings for procedures.
      2. Disconnect EVAP canister vent line near front of tank.
      3. Disconnect fuel pump module electrical connector (pigtail harness) near front of tank. Harness connector is clipped to body.
        1. Remove two fuel tank strap nuts. Position both tank support straps away from tank.
        2. Carefully lower right side of tank while feeding both fuel hoses through access hole in body. Fuel Tank Full And Not Drained Using DRB Scan Tool: To prevent fuel loss through hoses, keep left side of tank higher than right side while lowering. Do not allow hose openings to drop lower than top of tank.
        3. Continue lowering tank until clear of vehicle. Place tank on floor with left side (hose side) higher than right side
          1. Drain tank by removing fuel fill hose at tank. Fuel fill hose is largest of 2 hoses. Insert the drain hose (from an approved gasoline draining station) into hose opening. Drain tank until empty.
          2. If fuel pump module removal is necessary, refer to Fuel Pump Module Removal/installation for procedures.
          INSTALLATION
          1. If fuel pump module is being installed, refer to Fuel Pump Module Removal/installation for procedures.
          2. Install fuel fill/vent hoses to tank fittings. To prevent hose from kinking, rotate each hose until index mark on hose is aligned to index tang on fuel tank.
          3. Install hose clamps to hoses. Position clamps between index marks on each hose.
          4. Position fuel tank to hydraulic jack.
          5. Raise tank into position while guiding fuel fill and vent hoses into and through access hole in body.
          6. Continue raising tank until positioned to body.
          7. Attach two fuel tank mounting straps and mounting nuts. Tighten nuts to 10 Nm (90 in. lbs.) torque. Do not over tighten nuts.
          8. Install both fuel hoses to fuel fill tube. Tighten both retaining clamps.
          9. Position fuel hose shield to body. Install and tighten 4 mounting bolts.
          10. Connect fuel pump module pigtail harness electrical connector near front of tank.
          11. Connect fuel pump module supply line near front of tank. Refer to Quick-Connect Fittings for procedures.
          12. Connect EVAP hose near front of tank.
          13. Install exhaust tailpipe heat shield.
          1. Install fuel tank skid plate (if equipped).
          1. Lower vehicle and connect battery cable to battery.

he filter is deep up under the front passenger'sside, right inside of the running board and straight across from thetransfer case. It's protected and hid by a small shield with a larger,silver heat shield (that runs diagonally) in front of that.

You first need to relieve the fuel line pressure by depressing the biketire valve located on the fuel rail on top of the engine under the bigblack cover that covers the whole engine. There are only 4 nuts thathold the big cover on, and once you remove those, remove the hose at.gifthe back of the cover from it's hose guide and the cover will be freeto be removed. Then you'll see the tire valve in front of you on theright side sticking up from a metal tubing line. There should be ablack valve cover on top of the valve. You'll need to have a rag readywhen depressing the valve since a good amount of gas will be relievedand it's under considerable pressure. Be sure the engine's not real hotwhen you do this just in case gas spills on the engine.

Once the pressure is relieved and you've jacked up the passenger'sfront side of the car, crawl under and try to locate the two fuel linescoming from the tank at the rear of the vehicle. The filter is locatedjust past where they make a 90 degree turn.

You'll need to remove the diagonal, silver heat shield first. Thereshould be 2 bolts on one end, and I think 1 on the other. Once it'sremoved, you should see a small cover that has two hex nuts with thefilter being on the back side of this cover.

Once it's removed, you'll notice there is only one line going to theengine and two coming from the gas tank. The fitting for the engineside requires a special tool that's readily available at any checkerauto, advanced auto, type of store. When you get the fuel filter fromthe store, get the tool too so you can be sure you get the right sizeof tool. There's a latch that first has to be popped up that is hookedon the end of the fitting facing the filter. It just pops up then thespecial tool clasps around the nipple of the filter and pushes into thefitting.....towards the line going to the engine. As you squeeze thetool together around the nipple of the filter, push the fuel line awayfrom the filter and it should just push right off.

The tank side lines are a different fitting and don't require anyspecial tool, but they're a bit of a pain to figure out since the wayto release them is not readily visible. Use a very small screwdriverand put it in the trough of the maroon tab that should be facing youand pry the tab out. That will release a tab that should then be freeto hang down. This has to be first released so you can then push itback up through the fitting where it has been clamped in place aroundthe nipple of the fuel filter. It should pop through the top side ofthe fitting, and you can reach up and feel when it is protruding up.Once it is, the fitting should be free from the filter and the line canbe pulled off of the filter.

Be aware that gas WILL run out of the hoses, so you don't want yourface or anything electrical right under the lines. It only takes acouple minutes for them to completely quit dripping after the shortsection of gas line has emptied.

The new filter goes on in reverse order, and the fittings push rightback onto the nipples of the filter. You should definitely feel a'click' on the engine side of the filter when you push the line backon, and the gas side lines need to be pushed well onto the filternipples before pushing the clasps back down and latching back themaroon tab.
