08 Chevy express van 1500. Front brakes? grab on turns when going downhill on tight turns.

If it were the brakes, It would do it all the time. Like missing bolts. I would look at the inside of the tire and see if it is rubbing the inner fender well(crunch sound) and possibly rubbing the frame(sudden grabbing). Part of the fender well will be eaten away and the frame would be shiny. Haven't heard this with the express, but have done plenty of vehicles that had this problem. Mostly misalignment and rack problems.

It could be a lose caliper or a worn out pad. You had better take the wheel off and have a look.

I have a 2000 Alero and have front wheel drive. My front left tire will rotate to go forward but as soon as I put the car in reverse the tire will rotate a little bit but than stops and drags with the car....

Sounds like a brake issue to me, like the caliper sticking. I've taken the axle, brakes and hub/wheel assemblies off these many times, pretty simple. If you choose to DIY, I would suggest you buy a Haynes manual....about $20 well worth the investment. The crunching sound maybe a damaged pad, or something that got lodged in there. You have my curiosity, wish I could see it for myself! :) If you aren't a DIYer, take it to a place that does free brake checks, I suspect you may possibly need a new caliper.

Crunch on brake application

not all cars but some do when you take off the rotor itself there is little brake pads just inside this is how your emergency brakes work and if you have this then this is probably why you are having the crunching noice because one of the pads is cracked inside
