Check for any vacuum leaks/loose hoses. Make sure timing marks are correct. Having the cam/crank off one tooth will cause a rough run

Where is the number one cylinder at on a 2001 volkswagen cabrio 2.0 litre engine?

The timing marks are on the cam sprocket and on the harmonic balancer. Look closely and you will see a small indention on the sprocket and it should have a placement on the housing that lines up with the sprocket mark. Once you have both cam and crank marks lined up you are at top dead center and cylinder 1 is lined up in the compression stroke

Timing chain not marked truck won't run How many links between mark on cam sprockt and mark on crank geer? When lined on TDC. Is there a mark on block to eline cam geer?

there should be a corresponding mark on the wheel and on the cover. what specifically is your engine? the marks on the wheel could be a punched rounded mark while on the timing belt cover the mark looks like it has been made by a hacksaw when #1 piston is on TDC youre closest to the mark. you can also crank the cam wheel to the cycle where its on ignition stage-this also is the closest to the mark

I can find the timing mark I need riset the time on nissan pickup 1986 2wd

the timing mark is usually a white painted groove on the main fan belt pulley.
Look for another plate with a a couple of lines or grooves mounted on the engine block right behind the fan belt pulley wheel.
Assuming you have hooked up your timing light per the instructions...When you shine your timing light at this area you are looking to see if the pulley mark lines up with the timing mark on the engine block plate when the engine is at a specific idling speed and the distributor is adjusted to make the timing mark line up when cylinder 1 is firing.
The engine block plate is often marked as 6 deggrees BTDC (before top dead centre). The middle mark is usually top dead centre. (the timing figure could be anything eg 8 deg BTDC..I am just usually an example figure)

Set timing 2001 ford escort zx2

Hi, this system does not have a distributor. The timing is computer controlled and is not adjustable. In fact the manufacturer recommends that you do not even check it. most all vehicles that are fairly new have the same thing. hope this helps.

Can't adjust my timing

try aligning the timing marks again and mark the placement of the number one wire on the distributer housing then remove the cap and align the rotor with the mark then try to start it also it is important to be sure the marks were aligned properly sometimes they have to point together sometimes straight up etc. NOTE:if the valves are damaged you may not be able to start the vehicle even if you have change the timing belt
