Where can I find the map sensor on a 1990 Buick Riviera 3800

You may not have one. If you have a Mass Air Flow sensor, very possible there is no map sensor.
I have a '92 LeSabre, and it does not have a map sensor, only the MAF sensor. I have seen a 2005 Buick Century that has both the MAF and a map sensor. On that one, the MAP sensor is on top of the intake manifold, on the passenger side of car.

I'm not sure I understand your question. When I first read it I thought you were saying you had an error code that the engine idle is low, but the error code you've given is for a MAP sensor problem which you mentioned in your post also. I'm going to guess that you've observed the low idle yourself, and when you ran the diagnostics the engine computer was complaining of a bad MAP sensor signal. This is triggered when the engine computer sees a change in another sensor that should correlate with a certain change in the MAP sensor, but the MAP sensor signal doesn't change as expected. Idle problems are a possible symptom of a bad MAP sensor, so this is not unreasonable. What your engine is telling you is that you should check the MAP sensor and its related wiring and hose connections to try to find your problem. If you fix the problem with the MAP sensor then your idle may start working properly again.

Wiring on map sensor

Some of those models had a MAP Sensor and some didn't.The mazda and the Ford ranger are the exact same truck with the exception of the grill and tail lights. I am not sure if your saying that you have a map sensor and no wire or a wire and not map sensor.If there is no wire for a map sensor then you truck does not require one. If it has the wire then you will have to get a map sensor.The trucks that don't have a map sensor will have a Mass Air Flow Sensor, located at the top of the air filter box.

your map sensor on the intaque manifom .when you change your map sensor you have inprestion the motor runing bedter because prestion your car need to run if snt that check your oxygen sensor ,or cank sensor end check ,catalitic muffler if is nut stuck ... mike66

If you have a mass air flow sensor in the big boot from air cleaner housing to throttle body, likely there is no map sensor.

Manifold Absolute Pressure/Baro Sensor Range Out of Limits.

You have a bad MAP sensor or a vaccume leak going to the sensor. If you can't find a valid leak to the vaccume lines at the MAP sensor you have a bad MAP Sensor. Check the Vaccume lines FIRST.

Component locator - cannot find the MAP sensor

TESTING-MAP- A vacuum line runs from the sensor mounted high to the intake manifold so it can measure the vacuum in the intake manifold. NOTE: Unusually high or low barometric pressures can generate a false DTC for the MAP sensor. If no driveability symptoms accompany the MAP code, do not replace it.
  1. Connect a MAP/BARO tester to the sensor connector and sensor harness connector. With ignition ON and engine OFF, use DVOM to measure voltage across tester terminals. If the tester's 4-6V indicator is ON, the reference voltage input to the sensor is okay. NOTE: The green light on the tester indicates that the VREF circuit is okay, 4-6 volts. A red light or no light indicates the VREF is either too low or too high.
  2. Measure the reference signal of the MAP sensor. If the DVOM voltage reading is as indicated in the table, the sensor is okay.
    1. Turn the ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the MAP sensor and connect a vacuum pump in its place.
    3. Apply 18 in. Hg of vacuum to the MAP sensor.
    4. If the MAP sensor holds vacuum, it is okay. If the MAP sensor does not hold vacuum, it must be replaced. Fig. 1: Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor 84174020.gif

Replacing the MAP sensor??

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Locate the MAP sensor and remove the retaining screws
  3. Detach the electrical connector.

  1. Remove the vacuum hose and lift the MAP sensor from the engine.
  2. Installation is reverse of the removal procedure.

Need to find location of map sensor dodge

The map sensor is located on the side of the intake manifold plenum. Look to the left of the power steering fluid canister and you will see it with a 3 wire connector. Hope this will help you.

Map sensor bad and can't find one

A manifold absolute pressure sensor (MAP) is one of the sensors used in an internal combustion engine's electronic control system. Engines that use a MAP sensor are typically fuel injected. The manifold absolute pressure sensor provides instantaneous manifold pressure information to the engine's electronic control unit (ECU). This is necessary to calculate air density and determine the engine's air mass flow rate, which in turn is used to calculate the appropriate fuel flow. (See stoichiometry.)
An engine control system that uses manifold absolute pressure to calculate air mass uses the speed-density method. Engine speed (RPM) and air temperature are also necessary to complete the speed-density calculation. Not all fuel-injected engines use a MAP sensor to infer mass air flow; some use a MAF (mass air flow) sensor. Several makes use the MAP sensor in OBD II applications to test the EGR valve for functionality. Most notably General Motors uses this approach.
