follow the upper radiator hose away from the radiator toward the motor and that is where you will usually find the thermostat housing.

SOURCE: check engine light on;engine codes p0420 and p0773

I looked up the codes you posted.
P0420 is showing a bad oxygen sensor on bank #1, the one down by the catalytic converter.
P0773 is an electrical problem with the shift solenoid E.
A bad oxygen sensor would cause lower fuel milage.

SOURCE: idle too low on hot starts 2001 Avalon

Sounds like you idle air control valve is going bad. They start acting up on a hot engine due to sticking or high resistance through its internal windings. It will get to the point where the engine will stall every time you take your foot off the gas.
I suggest getting it replaced and the throttle body cleaned at the same time since it will need to be removed to replace the IAC.

SOURCE: flashing A/C button

You need to replace the A/C Magnetic clutch relay, located in the under hood fuse box. From the dealer, the part is about $80, though you can pick it up for a bit cheaper from your local autoparts store. It is a 2 minute fix, and a very, very common problem.

Check your coolant level in the radiator first. Problem could also be a weak waterpump

My 2001 Toyoya Avalon is overheating what could be the issues?

Make sure the electric cooling fans are coming on. If they are, you could have a bad thermostat and gasket. If the fans aren't coming on, you probably have a bad coolant temp sensor. Also, check your fuses, if the fans aren't coming on.

Overheating when outside temp goes above 90 degrees F

on GM vehicles they still use clutch fans and when sitting at an idle for a while the fan is not pulling enough air through the radiator and condensor so therefor the a/c starts to put out warmer air and the coolant temp. will rise a little bit. You could try replaceing the fan clucth and see if that helps any.
