Check all fuses, likely it is a bad throttle valve. they are very expensive though.

Sounds like a vacuum leak. This will cause the idle speed to be high. Additionally most cruise controls are operated by vacuum pressure. Look around the intake manifold for disconnected rubber hoses. May have popped off from dry rot or stretched out etc. Find the vacuum leak and fix it, both problems should go away.

on my 98 eldo the cruise control clips to a bracket if it has come undone the cruise might say it has engaged it cant engage. 2000 mercury villager, runs a fast idle. whether cold or warm the idle remains at a high idle speed, it even pulls with the brake applied.

Could be a vac leak, or a dirty throttle body, or a faulty idle air control valve. The computer controls idle speed by regulating the amount of air into the intake. Could also be something pulling on the throttle cable such as the cruise control.

It sounds like your Idle Control Valve is stuck. Remove the Idle Control Valve on the throttle body and clean out the holes, and clean the Idle Control Valve. If the problem persists, replace the Idle Control Valve.

92 chevy corsica when starting engine reves real high and then idles normal what could cause this?

as , with most corsicas , around that time , it seems that there is a general problem with the cruise control . . .
try unhooking the arm that connects the cruise control to the engine . . . should be easy to take off ,
and see if that helps the problem
