Question about Kia Cars & Trucks
Key will not turn to start engine. Took it to repair shop and the cost the quoted seem very high.
Do you have a second key? I had a similar problem (though with a Ford) when my key got worn down too far. I had a copy made from my wife's key, and it works fine.

Today 11-12-08 my 2003 H2 Hummer would not start. Checked battery it ischarged. Cables tight. Tried to start with portable booster pak. No go. Tridto jump start with my wife's Suburban. Still no go.
When I turn the switch I hear a single click and that is it. No engine turning over. While trying to start with key the headlights go out. Out of ideas, Will take to Chevy garage in am. Will post solution.

its not that had to replace the ignition switch, remove the steering wheel, u will need to buy a ighition removal tool, push plate down, remove plate and the switch will slide right out.. go to advanced auto parts and they will tell you all the tools you will need to replace the switch, and they have a loaner tool program, so just buy the tool and take it back and get your money back.. good luck keith...

the ignition switch is located under the dash at the bottom of the steering column.suspect a fault in the linkage connecting tumbler to switch.

The parts price seems about right, and I don't know how many shops you have in your area to get a quote from, but it seems that somewhere closer to $275-300 would be the norm for this job. I had a lifetime guarrantee on a muffler/tailpipe on my truck, but the company closed , so when it came time to re do the exhaust, I didn't get a thing...
