1987 f150 if i dump gas into the carbirator it will run but to turn it over it wont start

This is a difficult problem to solve because it seems like you have fuel that you can see and won't run; and then when you add fuel manually, it runs.

The TPS throttle position switch is suppose to regulate the fuel dumped into the engine..
You may have a dead spot on this switch. Another part, a crankshaft sensor, is suppose to report to the ECM about its' revolutions. The ECM then increases fuel pressure to match the RPM.

Since you changed the fuel pump you need to check the fuel pressure.ed

What you are doing makes no sense. It is called abuse.

What exact testing has been done on the vehicle, by you or a repair shop?

Why not just just get a quote to have it diagnosed, then decide what to do?

Throttle/Idle/running problem - wants to run too fast, or stall out

RPM's up and down check EGR valve and sensor. EGR valve and sensor control idle. That's why your getting the surging on rpm's and this could be giving out the other codes. If mass flow was bad car will not start and the same for the map sensor. O2 sensor measures gas and air for right mixer. TPS controls 0-60 speed as in throttle respons.

Pinging noise under heavy load at higher rpm

This seems to be an issue with this car. I have the same year and model as you. The book states that the car should be operated with gas with an octane of 91 or above. With gas prices like they are, I usually use regular. My car knocks and pings like crazy on a hill or full load. When I put premium in, it still does it but is a lot more quiet. My best friend also owns the exact same car - and is a mechanic - and says that this is not abnormal in a car of this size. He adjusted my timing the other day, and between that and my using premium gas - no matter what the cost - it has more power and is quieter. I've been driving my car like this for 14 months and it has 130k on it. He says not to fret over it, so I just get in the right lane and wind on down the road. (amazing that once this little baby gets moving, it's hard to stop it!!)

I know this didn't likely help you any...just wanted you to know that it's not all bad.
