That code is for the Throttle Position Sensor. It is bad. Replace it. That part would cause the abs to change modes too.

2000. Why do the battery and ABS lights come on suddenly?


The battery light is for the charging system , battery not being charged ! Alternator may have brushes going bad or a diode ! Or lose wiring . ABS light could be coming on because of low power (VOLTAGE) Control modules don't like low voltage . I suggest you take an have it tested !

The 12 is normal for the starting code. The 41 says generator (alternator) field is not switching properly. Code 45 says Turbo boost limit exceeded (engine was shut down by logic module). I doubt that you have turbo on the Dakota. However there IS a code 46. Battery voltage too high during charging or charging system voltage too low. That would make sense with the 41 code. Sounds like you may have an alternator/charging system problem.

more than likely its the speed sensor which is the abs each wheel has one just run an obd11 code reador on it it will tell ya which one price on my ford it ran about 41 dollars

What's the actual meaning of DTC codes 41, and 58, for this vehicle?


the meaning of codes 41 and 58 is:

DTC - 41 Ignition control error

DTC - 41 MEM- CAL error
DTC - 41 Cam sensor sinal error

DTC - 58 Trans fluid temp sensor circuit error (low voltage)
DTC - 58 VATS System error

Alternator was not charging battery and check engine code 41 appeared changed alternator and battery still same issue but check engine code 47 now


Seems you still have a charging system problem since code 47 means
Battery voltage is too low.
If you changed both the alternator and the battery then the only thing left is the relays, fuses and actual wiring in the truck that might be bad. Electrical problems like that can be the hardest problems to trace and repair.

My ABS light has come on and won't go off


vehicle has to be scanned for trouble codes to determine cause,most major auto parts stores scan veh. free of charge,sometimes abs light will come on if battery voltage drops(dead battery)if that is the case all they have to do is clear the code,good luck

ABS error code 41 & 42


41 indicates Rpm sensor, at left front wheel, 42, is right front sensor. I'd check for dirt in and around both, clean connections, and wire brush or whatever the toothed ring to clean it all up, then clear codes & see what happens.

I definitely agree with motor1258's suggestions, but from the trouble code you got, it sure sunds like an alternator replacement is in your future. If you have a voltmeter, and the battery has enough charge to start the vehicle, you can check the battery voltage with the vehicle off, then start the vehicle and check voltage at the battery terminals again. If the voltage readings are essentially equal, the alternator is not charging the battery. (Voltage at the battery posts with a good alternator should read around 14 volts.)
I would not pull a used alternator from a 14-year-old vehicle to use as a replacement, no matter how "new" the salvage vehicle looks. After all, you'd probably get a 14-year-old alternator.

TEST B: BATTERY VOLTAGE OUT OF RANGE - DTC B1676
1. Check if vehicle has been jump started within past 2 weeks. If vehicle has been jump started, ABS is
okay. If vehicle has not been jump started, go to next step.
2. Using DVOM, measure voltage between positive and negative battery terminals. If voltage is 9-19 volts,
go to next step. If voltage is not 9-19 volts, diagnose charging system. See appropriate GENERATORS
article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS.
3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect 25-pin ABS control module. Install EEC-IV 60-pin Breakout Box (014-
00322). Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between breakout box terminal No. 20 and ground. If voltage
is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair Light Blue/Pink wire between
ABS control module and instrument panel fuse panel.
4. Turn ignition off. Measure voltage between breakout box terminal No. 25 and ground. If voltage is
greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair Red wire between ABS
control module and power distribution box/engine compartment fuse box.
5. Measure voltage between breakout box terminal No. 9 and ground. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go
to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair Yellow/Light Green wire between ABS control module
and power distribution box/engine compartment fuse box.
6. Measure resistance between breakout box terminal No. 8 and ground. Also, measure resistance between
breakout box terminal No. 24 and ground. If both resistance measurements are less than 5 ohms, replace
ABS control module and repeat self-test. If either resistance measurement is greater than 5 ohms, repair
suspect Black wire between ABS control module and ground distribution.
NOTE: DTC B1676 will set if vehicle has been jump started.
