The battery light has nothing to do with the battery, it indicates that the charging system (which is the alternator) is not producing enough power to cancel the light in the dash, have Autozone or Kragen test the charging system again, the rebuilt alternator may be defective that u just installed or a connector to it has a bad connection.

I think you're over your head here. Take it to a professional mechanic and let her sort it out. Sounds like your alternator isn't putting out the correct voltage.

1999 Toyota Tacoma battery keeps dying

This is easy to test but you need a multimeter. Connect the multimeter to the battery and run the engine at a fast idle (say 2000 rpm). You should get a voltage reading anywhere from 14 to 15 volts if the battery is fully charged and the alternator is working. If the reading is around 12 volts, then the alternator is not working.

Have had 6 alternators in 4months go bad 3 different garages cant find the problem? every time its good for a month and then light come on the dash and then the car dies and the alternator gets tested and...

Could be an oil leak that's causing the alternator to go out. I had my alternator replaced and had my cam bore seals replaced, but the alternator just went out only after having it for 1 month. Going to have it replaced again tomorrow. It could be that the oil was leaking on the new one before I got the oil problem fixed. Before the brake and battery light came on, my service engine soon light came on and I took it to the dealer and they told me it was my 02 sensor so I had that replaced. A week ago my service engine soon light came on again. I checked my gas cap and made sure it was tightened and the light went off after I cranked it up again. I replaced the battery after the alternator went bad the first time because the battery died after 2 weeks. I don't have any solutions to this problem but it is very frustrating. I bought this SUV brand new in 2002 and have not had any problems in 9 years, until this situation. I had the timing belt changed at my 60,000 interval, fuel injections cleaned, I even had the transmission power flush at the dealear suggestion. Car drives great always has, but I don't want to keep having to have a new alternator and battery every 1-2 months. If anyone knows the problem and a way to fix it please post.

Battery light came on, had it tested, said Alternator was bad, replaced that with a brand new one, still got the red battery light. Replaced the battery w/a top quality one, all was good until about 10...

I wouldn't suspect the alternator. First I would check the battery connections, ensure they are tight. Check and make sure they are clean, no green fur or white corrosion. If any exists, loosen off the cables and clean. Quite often alternators are mis-daignosed to simply bad, loose or corroded battery terminals. They build up with excess resistence in the form of corrosion, and can't accept any voltage produced from the alternator. Second check the ground cable from the battery to the engine, and to the frame (or body), make sure they are tight and clean. If there is still an issue i would suspect a wiring problem to the alternator that is inhibiting the regulator to produce voltage.

My battery light started flickering a couple weeks ago and then my check engine light came on. my car then started freaking out and died. we tested the battery and the alternator, the battery was fine, but...

OK, try to replace the alternator with one that is 'lifetime' warranted rather than one with a '1 year' warranty or less.

Return the bad alternator to the auto parts retailer, and get a higher quality one.

I've had several bad experiences with one year warranteed alternators, some that were bad right out of the box.

I would say that the alternator is, again, at fault, but this time due to cheaper components causing your problem.

Yesterday when I went to work the battery and brake light were on when I got off the exit to get to work the battery and brake lights went off. Approxmitaly 12 hours later when I started the car to go home...

Try a day time running light modual, these things are notorious for messing up,and since they are supposed to work when the car is charging it seems like the logical solution.

Alternator keeps going bad - three so far. Battery light flickering off/on now.

You have probably been getting 'rebuilt' units which is not bad in itself but if the rebuilder received a batch of bad diodes they may have these failures until they are exhausted.
But, buddy, you ain't broke my record yet; a lousy Saturn (LAST GM I will own!) bought new, ate SIX (6) alternators in 57,600 miles. That wasn't the worst problem; it ate the auto tranny at 31,000 and dropped a rod cap at the above final mileage.
