Question about 1987 Chevrolet Corvette
Thought sparkplug wires were wrong fireing order .made mistake and pulled wires off disbr and went by the book on firing order tried cranking over wouldnt start so i tried putting wires 180 deg off tried starting and acted like battery went dead then smelt like elect wire burn ,,smelt bad like elect fire ,now wont even turn over ,,motor turns over by hand battery good all i get is elect noise and nothing happens .key is clean im aware offvat system , help
It seems that something was burned out trying to make the starter turn. The problem could be the starter and/or the solenoid.
Go to youtube and enter, "how to check a starter" you may have to remove it to check it. I could tell you how. But it is better if you see how it's done for yourself. Also check the fuses.

SOURCE: motor cranks but won,t start
hes right check the ignition control module.i had to replace mine because my cavalier would start fine one minute and the next it would be idling rough and backfiring. your best bet is to replace the control module.

Sounds like you have the firing order right but your off on the #1 on the distributer. Every time you get an explosion coming from the carb its misfiring. Find the #1 on dist and continue with firing order

I'm assuming it won't start now with the new battery..
they do sometimes flood, but not usually unless there's a regulator problem, etc..
but try starting fluid into intake 1st.
If it starts and runs, then proceed..
You'll have to start by checking if the fuel pump is running with key to ON 1st and foremost.
the power to pump.
If so, then check for fuel pressure
then power to spark/coil, etc..
even Temp sensor switch...(check wiring diagram in Haynes repair manual)
too much to check from there on if no start still
I'm not an expert, just tryin to help from much experience with Chevys
