Question about 2000 Mercury Cougar

1 Answer

My AC compressor on a 99 V6 Cougar does not stay on for more than 3 seconds at a time. The charge is ok but the compressor kicks out 2-3 sec after it starts. I think it is the capacitor????

No its not the capacitor.
put more freon in it untill it stops cycling on and off.
thats the low pressure switch keeping the comp from killing it self on the suchion side.

it needs more freon .

In all Fords of the 90's the biggest single reason the AC compressor doesn't kick in is because the refridgerant charge has leaked out due to a defective compressor shaft seal and the "O" rings connections of the AC line seals near the conndensor.

I have a 2001 Ford Mustang V6, the ac is blowing warm air. We checked the refrigerant and it is full. The ac compressor will kick on for a few seconds and then kick off. Why is the compressor not staying...

it's either low (in spite of your readings) or your a/c clutch is not working correctly or you have too big an air gap in the clutch.
First, just disconnect the 2 pin connector from the a/c pressure cycling swithc and jumper the 2 pins with a wire to force the clutch to stay engaged. See if it blows cold then, and stays engaged. You can run this way for about 15 minutes before you have to pull the plug.
report reulsts.

Ac compressor kicks on and off every couple seconds. wont stay running

Hello, yo will need to check to see if the system is charged properly, this is usually a sign of a low
freon charge, if the system checks ok on charge, then the next thing that can cause this, is a faulty cycling switch that is attached to the a/c acumlator

When ac is turned on compressor kicks in and out 5 times then quits. will not stay on and cool. i changed the high pressure switch and it still does the same thing. 134a charge is ok .

Maybe try checking to see if you have the rite relay in place. Sometimes they just need to be replaced or cleaned to be able to handle the load of current that surges thru when the compressor kicks on.

Battery light stays on 2000 mercury cougar with v6 engine battery light stays on

Your alternator isn't putting 14 volts out to the battery. Check the stator wire on the alternator and the 3 wire plug make sure there is no gap on any of the alternator connectors and they are on VERY firm!

Hook up a multimeter inside your car and watch the battery voltage! if under 14volt you got an alternator problem!

1999 mercury cougar. won't start...cranks...battery ok.

V6 ? 4CYL? Have you verified SPARK? Did anyone check the "fuel pump inertia switch?" Its in the right front kick panel. If it was a "Anti-theft Issue" the light would be on or flashing.
