Removing a starter from a 95 tacoma pickup

I'm trying to help out my girl and remove her starter from her Tacoma pickup. She has a V6 3.4 cyl. Now I just want to know if there is some type of special thing that I have to be aware of while removing the starter. I don't have much experience in auto repair however, I do have done some work on some vehicles simply remove and replace but any information you provide will be appreciated

I found it convenient to access the starter from the wheelwell. You may need to remove the wheel from the truck first, but then there is easy access to the starter. Make sure you remove the negative battery cable before your start the job. You don't want sparks!

If you have the space, you can drive a large screwdriver into the filter and use it as a pry bar like a tire iron.

3.
Remove the nut securing the battery cable to the starter body with a wrench. Pull the battery cable off the post away from the starter. Pull the other wiring connection straight out of the connector.

4.
Remove the mounting bolts securing the starter body to the bell housing with a socket and ratchet. Support the starter body while you remove the mounting bolts, then pull the starter out of the bell housing.

Good luck!!!

Replace starter

Disconnect the battery, then crawl under the truck and locate the starter, remove the plug going to the solenoid (small brown lead w plastic clip) . then the power wire that goes from the battery to the main starter terminal (12 mm nut) locate the 2 starter bolts 14 mm and unbolt the starter and remove. install in reverse order. ON the 4 wheel drives you may need to remove the skid plates over the bottom of the engine to access the starter.

Whats the easiest way to change the starter on a 1999 Toyota Tacoma?

Remove the driver side front wheel was the best way to gain access to the starter which is right there. After removing the bolts there was a lot of twisting to get it out.

Have a great day!

Wont start, just clicks.

This problem is caused by the starter motor contacts inside the starter solenoid being worn burned and pitted, U CAN REPLACE JUST THE CONTACTS FOR ABOUT $15, CHECK EBAY MOTORS FOR THE PARTS FOR YOUR YEAR OF TRUCK.

IT PROBABLY IS THE STARTER. CHECK TO SEE IF THE ENGINE TURNS OVER BY WATCHING OR HAVING SOMEONE WATCH THE FAN OR FRONT PULLEYS AS YOU TRY STARTING IT.
