SOURCE: how to check a 2002 kia sedona ignition coil

first, does the motor have 2 or 3 coils? if so, check the ohms on the ones you know is good, then check the ohms on the other one. if they're about the same, they might be fine. other than that theres the ignition module usually located under the coil packs. i dont know how to check it, but if you think its bad, contact your local trusted mechanic and see if he knows how to check it. modules usually run about 70-100 dollars, depending on the manufacturer. you could also check the crankshaft position sensor, but usually if that goes, the whole engine will misfire.
also, the ingition system has what you call a "dead spark." for example, you have 3 coils on the car, and two cylinders are fired by 1 coil. while one cylinder is on its compression stroke, the other is on its exhaust stroke, and when it fires it sends the spark to both cylinders at once. thats why the spark going to the one on its exhaust stroke is the dead spark.
hope this helps!!!

SOURCE: My 99 kia sportage is misfiring, and there is oil

Hi, it might be caused by an oil ring on the piton that broke or pistons that is damaged. If you do a compression test, you will be able to find out at which cylinder the engine is misfiring and then you will need to take the cylinder head off to determine the extent of the damage.

2008 Kia sportage misfire on 6' code p0306

Do an electronic cylinder contribution test
Then do a cylinder leak down test-to check for valve issues
Then smoke the intake for vacuum leaks

It has to be a valve problem, fuel problem or vacuum problem,
only on that one cylinder

Make sure the wires are not crossed, you may have put the problem
in there

My car is cutting off every time im going under 1000rpm. mercury sable 2002. codes were p0301 p0302 and p0316 until i changed crank sensor and spark plugs now it says p0316 p0305 p0306.. whats going on?...

P0305 is misfire in cylinder #5.
P0306 is misfire in cylinder#6.
P0316 is misfire on start up.
Have the plugs on those 2 cylinders, and the 2 fuel injectors checked, also check for spark from the coil on those 2 plug wires.

Please get back to us if you have further query or else please accept the solution.

Thanks for contacting

98 Sportage changed new plugs, wires, and boot and (fuse?) for coil packs. But now misfiring on 4th cylinder. Prior to tune was only getting poor fuel economy no misfires at all. What would i fix next?

if you started out with no misfire at all and then got a misfire after the tune up that does seem strange, my best guess would be that the plugs are not gapped correctly or the spark plug wire is, not completely snapped on, or the wire on the 4th cylinder was damaged when it was removed, i would start out making sure all the wires are on, you will either hear of feel a small snap when the wire is seated on the plug good, also make sure the wire is connected to the coil good

Misfires and codes PO316, PO306, & PO305 popped up on the diagnostics check. What needs to be fixed based on that?

You will need to replace no 5 and no 6 coil pack and spark plugs. P0316 is random missfire that computer could not detect the cylinder that was causing it,just knew one was missfiring.
Coil packs are common concern on these vehicles. Can get oil leak into the coil pack wells and may also even get moisture into them.
If yours is a 3.9L it may be involved in owner satisfaction program 07M07 or 07N09 in which they will cover them under the program for up to 10yrs or 100000 miles which ever comes first.
