Question about 2003 Toyota ECHO
Had computer checked. Everything Ok. No trouble lights. Inspection machine will not communicate. Car runs fine. Turn off the car, start back up and will not computer will not communicate again. Reset at shop, drive 30 miles, turn off engine at shop, test again nothing wrong, no codes. Go back to station, will not communicate again. No one knows why. ,
I know why. Toyota issued a technical service bulletin (TSB) dated September 8, 2003 applicable to all models, including yours. The bulletin specifies removal of the original DLC3 (OBDII connector cable) and installation of a controller area network (CAN) interface module. You may have to take your ECHO to a Toyota dealer to accomplish this.

Testimonial: "Thank you so much. I will contact the dealer!"
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

SOURCE: Code P0401 1998 Toyota Camry
I'm assuming that it is a four cyl.The p0401 code is for insufficient egr flow. Most of the time it is the egr vsv valve (vsv means vacuum switching valve)which is what controls the vacuum to the egr valve to open it.It is kind of hard to get to as it is on the block under the head on the back side.If you follow the hose from the egr valve it goes to the vsv.I have also seen mice eat holes in the vacuum line which would also give you problems.I hope this help and let me know if you have anymore questions

SOURCE: The engine light came on
a check engine light can come on for many reasons,, look in your local phone book or news ads to see who checks the diagnostic for free , and get those code numbers,, once you have them, you can look here http://www.bba-reman.com/content.aspx?content=OBDII_PowerTrain_P_Codes that will tell you what it is your looking at,, if you need help after that ,, common back !!!
