Question about 1999 Chevrolet Venture
The gear of my chevrolet transsport van, doesn't engage anymore, i start the car this morning, put the handgear on drive, it does not engage, i then put it on reverse, and it does the same thing. i basically couldnt drive it out today, cause it wont move
Check your transmission fluid and look for leaks if don't work you need repair your transmission

Check fluid level in transmission . run the fault codes and look for a faulty TCM or torque converter clutch solenoid / servo

It sounds to me as if the cable isnt adjusted properly. I would check with the shop that put the tranny in and see if they could check the adjustment on the cable, more than likely when they put in the new trans they didnt bother to adjust the cable for the replacement transmission

I had the same problem but my cousing, who is a mechanic, opened the whole thing up and removed the safety catch. Now, this is not the best of ideas because the car will shift now without your foot being on the brake but I have had it this way for a while and no troubles shifting in or out anymore.

SOURCE: 2001 impala shifting issue
I have a 2001 base impala and 6 months ago I experienced the same problem. I was driving on the street and all of a sudden my car acted as if it was in neutral. I pulled over and neither of the shifts engaged. The dealership said that my torque converter went bad. Somehow the bad torque converter caused shavings to get into my transmission. They gave me a new torque converter and flushed my transmission. My transmission was almost 2 years old; therefore, it was under warranty.

Hello, this is caused by a bad sungear inside the transmission. the transmission will need to be removed and troned down to repair this problem
