Question about 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix

House key slipped down into the centre consol by the gear shift. Have removed all the screws (8) and it still is held at the back.

The four screws I removed were two from each side and four from inside the larger compartment.

On most GM consoles, you unscrew the compartment door and it should lift out to see what is holding it. Or there is an ashtray or cupholder in the back. There could be a screw under it. Or, if all the screws are out, lift front a bit then pull back. Do not forget the shifter knob.

Toddler put coins in cassette player, now it will only shift into drive and neutral?

The two are unrelated so I don't see how doing something to the radio cassette would affect the gear shift lever, unless the little basket pushed some coins down the slot where the gear shift slot is at the same time. Shine a flashlight down there. You may need to remove the centre console unless you have one of those claw type grabbers that you use for picking up screws and nuts. One of these

How to replace vauxhall zafira offside headlamp

To replace the passenger side outside light on the Zafira is quite complex.

1. Remove the grill in the centre held in with four screws and tabs on the bottom. In my case two different bits were required, hex and star!

2. Remove the bumper at the wheel arch (two screws) having first moved the wheel out of the way.

3. Pull the bumper off its supports along and and underneath the light.

4. This reveals a screw that has to be removed before you can release the headlight housing.

5. Remove the THREE screws holding the headlight housing on top i.e. inside the bonnet.

6. Pull the headlight housing out, but just enough to gain access to the cap.

7. Remove the rubber cap. One quarter turn of the light housing will let it pop out.

8. Use a screwdriver to lever out the dead bulb and replace it with the new one, making sure to avoid fingerprints oil etc on the light. There is a guide to show you how it fits - a small narrow straight tab which fits next to what looks like (but is NOT) a small spring.

9. Reinsert the light. TEST IT NOW, cos you really don't want to do all of this again!

10. Replace the rubber cap and insert all FOUR screws holding the headlight housing in place. Reinsert the grill using the tabs and secure back in place with the FOUR screws (two different kinds).

11. Reinsert the bumper underneath the light and reattach to the trims under the wheel arch with the two screws for that.

And of course, none of the screws are all the same size... that would be far too intelligent wouldn't it!

You should be finished in about 30 mins, with practice!

How do you replace drive indecator light

1. Lift the little carpet in the console rear to the automatic gear shift. Pry with a small flat screwdriver will do the job.2. Remove the three Philips head screws.3. Remove one Philips head screws on each side of the rear console, they are located at the bottom front of the rear console panel. You may have to move the driver and passenger seat back to see the screws.4. Grab the back of the rear console and gently wiggle, pull backward and lift upward. Pull the hand brake so it is easier to remove the loosened rear console panel. 5. Use a flat head screwdriver to pry the rectangular 'cushion' around the automatic gear shift. Gently pry at various spot and the rectangular 'cushion' will come off easily.6. Now you are just one more plastic cover away from the burned bulb. The plastic cover that has those 'P'ark, 'R'everse, 'D'rive letters is held in place by four snap on latches. Use a small flat head screwdriver and gently push the black latches inward in a downward motion, once the screwdriver head gets inside the grey latch holder it will free the black latch. Work on each of the four latches in turn.7. Wiggle the plastic cover until it is completely loosened from the four latches. Gently lift the plastic cover up. The automatic gear shift will stop the plastic from being lifted out completely. You still have enough room to work with. You will see the little burned bulb directly below those 'P'ark, 'R'everse, 'D'rive letters. Gently pull the bulb out. I got my replacement bulb at Canadian Tire, Motomaster instrument replacement bulb 194LL (clear, long lasting, 2 bulbs for $2.99Cdn). It is a push-on bulb.8. Test the bulb by starting your car and dash lights.9. Snap back the plastic 'P'ark, 'D'rive cover. Put back the rear console panel and finally the rectangular 'cushion' around the automatic gear shift.

Key will not remove from ingintion switch

Try pushing the gear shift further forward in park with your hand and see if the key releases.

If this fails it may be the switch itself just under the centre console which surrounds your gear shift. Carefully but firmly pull up the centre console up and you will see a little 'plunger' switch the engages when the gear shift is at its furthest travel forward in park.

Mazda MX5. How do I remove the centre air vents so I can remove the centre console

Hi, really easy if you know how! Use a curved piece of wire to hook in and behind the eyeball (I bend one into a tight U shape push in and pull back) grasp wire tightly and pull hard. It feels as though they will break but they wont, they're held in with clips behind the fascia. The Centre console is held with clips also and two screws either side of the gear knob on the sides. When the screws are removed, pull hard again to remove the console. Good luck!

Ignition Switch Removal

you'll need to remove the console, as the key switch is between the seats. remove the shift boot cover and undo two console hold down screws (Torx 25) in front of the shift lever; there are two more in the aperture remaining when you take out the rear ashtray. Turn on the ignition key so you can put the shifter into neutral, and slide the console up and out between the seats (squeeze fit between the seat belt connectors) It's much easier if you get a sacrificial key cut, then cut the lobes off it!

with the console out, you'll need to remove the gear shift housing, for which there's a special Saab tool - they are 3 point heads. A six point socket with 3 points filed out might work. rotate the gear shift housing 90 deg to one side, to get at it's bottom, where there are two screws holding its cover in place.

With the cover off, you'll find two screws (T25) one on either side of the switch, holding the switch in place. Remove these and you have the switch. Note connections and alignments for re-assembly.

Hope this helps, if it does please give a "thumbs up"
