Try some engine flush. Usually oil deprivation to the top end is caused by plugged lifters.

I have a 97 chevy 5.7 vortec it knocks when cold but goes away when it warms up my truck is running lean which is causing a few other problems and ive done some research and im getting it could be bearings...

all of the problems you mentioned will be there when warm. bearing noise gets worse as the oil thins out and the oil pressure will be lower than normal. Collapsed lifter will indicate with a problem misfiring and will be there all the time. Piston slap will be more evident at lower than required idle rpms. Some knocks can be from loose valve seat inserts but then again that will show up as an occasional misfire and will progressively get worse. Check that the oil filter you are using has a non-return valve built into it to retain oil in the top end when stationary. The knock may be until oil pressure is built up. El cheapo filters mostly do not have the valve. check the viscosity of the oil you are using as you may have to go up a grade.
use a mechanics stethoscope to pinpoint where the noise is coming from. Some failing bearings (idler, water pump, alternator etc) will knock for a while until they warm up

2004 5.3 tahoe, Mobil 1 since 5,000 miles, now 55,000. Slight oil on top of both valve covers. Shop says there is no PCV valve but only a tube with a orfice that may be plugged up causing back pressure. ...

You can use the choke spray for cleaning it, if you do, remove and clean the entire tube from end to end, not just the oraface. However, this part is fairly cheap, around $10 at any automotive store, I suggest replacement.

Why did my 1984 chevy 305 start blowing white smoke so i checked oil and found water in it. but as i took off valve covers i found metal peices

White smoke, coolant in the oil-you had a cylinder head gasket failure. The valve train pieces indicate more damage-whew! Hard to guess, but if the coolant was in the oil for some time, it may have destroyed the engine. The bottom end bearings could be shot as well. I would be looking for a replacement low mileage engine. Or buy a NEW CAR!

Tick in motor with a lot of blowback coming from oil cap has started making a whining noise. not the knock sensor. could it be the oil pump?

The ticking may be coming from the valves, and or, the rocker arms, and or, the lifters. I have a 1996 Chevy Cavalier that has valve train noise and has 230,000 miles on it and is still going. If you are taking the oil cap off when the engine is running, you will see oil spitting out of it, since the engine is lubing the top end. Most vehicles have a pressure gauge on the instrument panel, and or, an oil light, which would show pressure problems. Try to isolate where the ticking is coming from by using a mechanics stethoscope, or a screw driver to your ear. The handle part of the screw driver goes to your ear of course. Place the scope or screw driver blade close to where the tick is coming from and you will hear the ticking get louder the closer you get to it.

94 cavalier top end knock

From your description of the knocking, mileage, and oil crusted on the intake valves you need an engine or a complete rebuild of the original.

I have a 2003 Chevy Impala. I ran my car with no oil and now I'm hearing a loud ticking/knocking noise coming from under my valve cover. I added 2 bottles of oil after finding out that I didnt have any...

might be the valves have been damaged running without oil
- or the crankshaft / camshaft / main bearings
most probably you have to let the engine be rebuilt by a mechanic
(expect cost of more than US$ 2.000)
or get another (used) engine at a scrapyard 2003-chevy-wutfveiel3ypko01ydor435x-5-0.jpg 2003-chevy-wutfveiel3ypko01ydor435x-5-2.jpg

Light tapping driver side valve cover in rear area 1973 chevy small block corvette engine. when engine rives up the tapping gets a little louder, the tapping is light, not a deep knocking sound.

The valves are out of adjustment or possibly a lifter is collapsed. A service manual or many sites online can provide you with information and a few different methods of adjusting the valves.

Blowing oil out the dipstick

Check the pipe from the top of the engine to the intake it may be clogged up. If the engine is low in power or it is burning oil then it could de broken or worn out pistons, cylinder's or piston ring's.

Top end noise Valve clearance

Top-end tune? This engine has oil-pressure-fed valve lash adjusters. There are some snake oils (engine oil additives) out there that claim to be able to free-up lifters and lash-adjusters, and you may have some success with following their instructions. After that, I would be checking what grade of oil you should be using in you climate and doing regular (possibly more frequent) oil changes.
