SOURCE: Difficulty to replace EGR valve in 1999 totyota camry 4-cyl automatic

If you have small hands it can be easy. The space between firewall and EGR is tight but it wasn't too difficult to remove. The vacuum hose at the bottom was hard to pull off and I ended up cracking it and had to splice it. It was more difficult to re-install the EGR then remove it. I had a difficult time with keeping the gasket aligned while bolting it in to the lower tube. I took a few attempts. I suggest when replacing the EGR leave the mounting bolts loose so you can more easily align the metal tube. I would tighten the metal tube at the bottom of EGR first then tighten the upper two mounting bolts on top. It took me about 5 minutes to remove and 15 minutes to replace. I would be sure to clean the IAC too after cleaning the EGR. I sprayed throttle bottle cleaner down the bottom hole located on the throttle body and let soak about 15 minutes then start and run the engine a minute and repeat the process. This helped smooth the idle while stopped at a light. It also stopped the idle from shaking and almost stalling the car out at a traffic stop when the engine was warm.

SOURCE: 2000 Honda Accord EGR Valve Error P0401

Jason,
-after you change the part you have to reset/clear the code

-this can be done by either:
(1) using the OBD2 code reader that Autozone used OR since option 2 (below) is very quick
(2) disconnecting the battery for about 30 seconds (this will delete all codes/radio presets/etc) but it will also clear the 'check engine' code
-this is what I do AFTER i write down my radio station presets :)

-hopefully the new EGR valve resolves your issue after you CLEAR the code
...but that code just means a an insufficient amount of Exhaust Gas recirculation (pressure difference) used to keep the emissions in check
-if it comes back, then there are a few other fixes to try also

-let me know if you need further assistance
-please remember to rate me `fix-ya`if it works
thanks

SOURCE: no vacuum to egr valve

there is an EGR vacuum solenoid somwhere that controls on/off vacuum to actuate the valve. i am not to sure of the location, but follow the vacuum line back from the egr until you find a device that looks like an electrical check valve for vacuum. that is a possibilty. but then again i am a ford, chrysler guy and am just giving you an answer based on my understanding of the functuality of a vacuum egr system

SOURCE: How do you clean the EGR valve on a 99' Honda Civic?

Pull vacuum on egr valve with engine idling and see if engine stumbles and tries to die until vacuum is released. If this DOES NOT happen the egr exhaust passage is plugged will need to remove egr valve assembly and remove carbon from passage into cylinder head.

SOURCE: EGR Valve Cleaning on a 1999 4.3 Silverado

If it is not just badly clogged, the intake does not need to be cleaned out. If you want to clean it out then take some brake cleaner and spray it in there and wipe it with a rag. I have never seen someone have to clean the intake due to not being clogged. Just my expierence I would just change the EGR and go from there

P1400 DPF EGR Sensor
Circuit Low Voltage Detected

I understand what the valve does, but
don't know exactly where to have you look
for it, or if it really failed without testing it

If you want to chance just replacing it, like
everyone seems to do,follow the vacuum
hoses away from the EGR Valve, and you should
find a small sensor in the vauum hoses with
a wire connector on it.

EGR is maybe stuck open. disconnect the vac hose at the EGR valve and see if the idle smoothes out. If the EGR is sitcking open, thats a vac leak. If that fixes it, replace the EGR solenoid valve.

Sluggish acceleration, almost fells like its starving or chocking

It seems like the EGR valve or the MAF ( Mass air flow sensor) The EGR is mounted near the air cleaning system. Have it scanned for a trouble code for free at an auto parts store.

check the accelerator cable it must be weak or worn out.due to which car starts sluggish while acceleration. -------- as you have replaced the most possible option/possibilities for car starting sluggish while accelaration its advisable that you need to get the codes checked at the car diagnosis center.so it will locate and confirm the exact faulty part. at www.autozone.com its free to get car diagnosed.they also sell parts if required after checking the codes. This will help. Thanks please keep updated. please dorate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya.

try(just an idea) knock sensor most of the time a egr scan will not pick it up if its bad , heres how to test it : Disengage the wiring connector from the knock sensor and measure the resistance between the sensor and ground. It should be 3300-4500 ohms

No problems with EGR valves/system on this model car. Its located under the throttle body. Your valve is electronically controled by the ECM/Computer. Pretty bullet proof setup. What is the actual code number that autozone gave you?? Let me know the code number and will take it from there.
