Question about 2003 GMC Yukon Denali

1 Answer

2003 yukon xl denali cranks but won't start

Truck ran fine the day before. I parked it and applied the parking brake and was messing with trying to remove the buttons from the steering wheel to see if I could get to the bulbs that are burnt out to replace them. not really knowing what I was needing to do to remove them I stopped messing with it and went to bed. Now the truck wont start but turns over fine. all the buttons on the steering wheel still work as normal. is there any way I could have damaged anything messing with that stuff? I have no trouble codes and its not in anti theft mode. atleast the light doesn't stay on. I haven't checked spark or fuel yet. just wanted to see if anyone has had a issue with bad wires in the steering wheel or column that could cause this problem.

I agree first check if you got a spark and check if fuel is actually being supplied

Did you try to replace the starter cable? is the Truck turning over or just clicking.? If it's turning over and not starting. Best guess would be one of two things. Knock sensors Located under intake manifold. they get wet and deteriorate or the fuel pump. I've replaced all three on mine. 233k still running strong...

SOURCE: 03 Yukon denali park brake warning wont turn off

hi for info the brakes warning light on dash is also an indication that brake fluid level is low? or there may be a leak resulting in fluid level drop ? also considering age of car you may need to inspect brake pads wear ? if your car has low brake pads wear indicators attached to pads ? or the hand brake switch req's checking to ensure it is being pushed to off position when h/brak is down ? so fluid level low is the obviouse 1st check as fluid will displace from reservoir as pads wear low hence the level indicator on fill cap trips on may i suggest if it is low level b4 you top up? check your b/pads if you have not done so recently? or replaced since new ? hope this helps you locate problem best wishes from the uk

if the fuel pump is running check the fuse for the injectors if the fuse is good check the air filter to be sure it is not too restrictive if that is good check to see if the fuel filter is put on so that the arrow on the filter is towards the engine.you also might look at the spark plugs to see that they arent fouled out and they arc properly. check the coils to see if all of them get a spark. if the fuel pump is not running check fuse or that the pump is connected properly. if the pump isnt running the engine will just run off of the fuel already in the line until it is gone causing it to stall out

You are going to have to pry it over the axle on one side of the park brake shoe assembly with either a pry bar or screwdriver. then just pop the new one back over the axle in the same way. Hope this helps

SOURCE: after replacing steering column containing

Disrupting the power supply triggers the antitheft system, and even though everything is back the way it should be, one the system is triggered there's no way to undo it. The only option vehicle owners have had for a long time is to take it to a dealership where they will have to replace the module, or sensor, replace the ignition switch and key. The average cost for these three parts plus labor is $1,000.00+. There is san alternative fix that is considerably cheaper. I had the same problem in my Yukon Denali And after 4 throttle body's, replacing gas pedal, rewiring the grounds replacing sensors, took it to not one but two GMC dealerships who were useless they can't fix their own trucks they're not the brightest !!!! After thousands of dollars I found a mechanic very familiar with this issue you want the solution it will cost ya 500$ for me to tell ya!! Just kidding I know how frustrating this problem is okay here is the fix the problem is these electric throttle bodies are GARBAGE!!!!!!! Don't matter what u do or what u replace it will come back on unless u convert your electric throttle body to the old cable throttle the actual fix was 900$ but I spent thousands and thousands trying to fix it!!! Please save your money and tell ur mechanic u want to convert to the old cable throttle!!! Gmc is well aware of the problem but won't fix it for u cuz they're useless

Define - It attempts to turn over but won't catch and run ???? When you turn the key to start does the starter engage an spin the engine ? This would be a crank no start condition . If the starter doesn't engage an spin the engine this would be a no crank no start condition . Sorry to ask but i have only been an auto tech for thirty years an have heard a lot of different discriptions for these simple actions . crank no start or no crank no start . Very different diagnostic procedures . So when you turn the key to start , does the starter engage an spin the engine ,but won't start an run ?

It sounds like the battery has a dead cell in it. Replace the battery. If you have an alarm installed remove the in line fuse from the alarm and see if that stops the battery drain.
