Relay tested ok and all wires have continuity,three pos 12 volt sources found in pump relay.

SOURCE: How do i check my EFI Relay?

Buy a new relay or switch one, then pull one at a time pulg in the new one to find out wich one isn't working.Just because there's power to it doesn't mean anything,it could be that the contacts are burnt together and theirfore not giving you the "injector pause" good luck.

I have a 2002 Honda 954RR. The fuel pump is not kicking on when I turn the key. How do I check the fuel pump relay to see if its working


the fuel pump relay has 4 leads. one is positive to battery, one is negative, ground, one is input voltage(on/off), and one is load (to the fuel pump +). Locate a 12 volt dc power source and connect the negative to the relay ground, and the positive to the relay input voltage lead. When 12 volts is applied to the input voltage, you should hear a click of the relay opening- additionally, if you have a multi-tester, you can also check for continuity (resistance, ohmage) by connecting the multi-tester to the 2 other leads. when the input voltage lead receives the 12 volts, you should hear a click AND the multitester should detect continuity in the circuit, and lose continuity when the 12 volt is removed from the input voltage lead.

I'm not getting fuel out of the pump but have 8.6 volts on three of the wires at the pump 87 pathfinder


Assuming it is an in-tank fuel pump, the fact there are three wires would suggest it is a combined pump and fuel gauge sender. 8.6 volts between the fuel gauge wire and ground is a realistic figure but is insufficient to operate the fuel pump.
The fuel pump needs a good ground and a feed of 12 volts but for safety reasons power is only supplied to the pump during cranking and when the engine is running. The pump of some cars does run for about 2 seconds when the ignition is switched on.
Unless the fuel pump relay is removed and the terminals are bridged so a constant supply of power is provided at the pump it is very difficult to check the voltage.

It is relatively easy to test the pump by connecting it directly to a known good battery, taking all appropriate safety precautions.

If the pump tests ok the fault is possibly the relay, wiring or connections or perhaps the fuse.
It would be a good plan to check the fuse first.

Automatic Shutdown (ASD) sense - PCM Input

The ASD sense circuit informs the PCM when the ASD relay energizes. A 12 volt signal at this input indicated to the PCM that the ASD has been activated. This input is used only to sense that the ASD relay is energized.
When energized, the ASD relay supplies battery voltage to the fuel injectors, ignition coils, and the heating element in each oxygen sensor. If the PCM does not receive 12 volts from this input after grounding the ASD reley, it sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC).

Automatic Shutdown Relay - PCM Output

The PCM operates the Automatic Shutdown (ASD) relay and fuel pump relay through one ground path. The PCM operates them by switching the ground path for the solenoid side of the realys on and off. Both realys turn on and off at the same time.
The ASD relay connects battery voltage to the fuel injectors and ignition coil. The fuel pump relay connects battery voltage to the fuel pump.
A buss bar in the power distribution center (PDC) supplies voltage to the solenoid side and contact side of the relay. The ASD relay power circuit contains a 20 amp fuse between the buss bar in the PDC and teh relay. The fuse also protects the power circuit for the fuel pump relay and pump. The fuse is located in teh PDC.
The PCM controls the relay by switching the ground path for the solenoid side of the relay on and off. The PCM turns the ground path off when the ignition switch is in the Off position. When the ignition switch is in the On or Crank position, the PCM monitors the crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor signals to determine engine speed and ignition timing (coil dwell). If the PCM does not receive the crankshaft position sensor and camshaft position when the ignition switch is in teh Run position, it will de-energize teh ASD relay.
The ASD relay and fuel pump relay are located in the PDC near the battery. The inside top of the PCD cover has a label showing relay and fuse location.

ASD and Fuel Pump Relays

The following description of operation and tests apply only to the Automatic Shutdown (ASD) and fuel pump relays. The terminals on the bottom of each relay are numbered.

OPERATION
- Terminal number 30 is connected to battery voltage. For both the ASD and fuel pump relays, terminal 30 is connected to battery voltage at all times.
- The PCM grounds the coil side of the relay through terminal number 85.
- Terminal number 86 supplies voltage to the coil side of the relay.
- When the PCM de-energizes the ASD and fuel pump relays, terminal number 87A connects to terminal 30. This is the Off position. In the off position, voltage is not supplied to the rest of the circuit. Terminal 87A is the center terminal on the relay.
- When the PCM energizes the ASD and fuel pump relays, terminal 87 connects to terminal 30. This is the On position. Terminal 87 supplies voltage to the rest of the curcuit.

TESTING
The following procedure applies to the ASD and fuel pump relays.
(1) Remove relay from connector before testing.
(2) With the relay removed from the vehicle, use an ohmmeter to check the resistance between terminals 85 and 86. The resistance shoud be 75±5 ohms.
(3) Connect the ohmmeter between terminals 30 and 87A. The ohmmeter should show continuity between terminals 30 and 87A.
(4) Connect the ohmmeter between between terminals 87 and 30. The ohmmeter should not show continuity at this time.
(5) Connect one end of a jumper wire (16 guage or smaller) to relay terminal 85. Connect the other end of the jumper wire to the ground side of a 12 volt power source.
(6) Connect on end of another jumper wire (16 guage or smaller) to the power side of the 12 volt power source. Do not attach the other end of the jumper wire to the relay at this time.

WARNING: DO NOT ALLOW OHMMETER TO CONTACT TERMINALS 85 OR 86 DURING THIS TEST.

(7) Attach the other end of the jumper wire to relay terminal 86. This activates the relay. The ohmmeter should now show continuity between relay terminals 87 and 30. The ohmmeter should not show continuity between relay terminals 87A and 30.
(8) Disconnect jumper wires.
(9) Replace the relay if it did not pass the continuity and resistance tests. If the relay passed the tests, is operates properly. Check the remainder of the ASD and fuel pump curcuits.

I know you said you replaced the relay, and this is a test procedure for the relay, but I have bought bad parts in the past. The description before the test procedure at least gives you an idea of what components are wired through and controlled by the relay. One of those may be faulty. Replace the TCM to fix the converter clutch problem.. The line 12 volt is direct power from the battery and 7 volts out the I am suspicious off as I think that the coil for the relay is partially shorting out to give the 7 volts. As for the other wire 12 volts in would be ok but if there is nothing out unless it is a relay that has not closed because the relay coil has not activated correctly.. Check the readings against a new relay.

Injectors get their power from the main relay and get their ground signal from the computer. The power to the injector wire is BK/W , The input power wires to the relay are blue. Jump these two wires to bypass the relay. The blue wire gets it's power from the EGI fuse in the engine compartment fuse box. If fuse is ok, jump a 12 volt source wire to terminal on relay to repair problem.
Capri main relay
This Mercury Capri main engine control relay is located under/behind the LH headlight (bucket) and interfaces with the PCM/ECU. this is a double relay.... one set of contacts according to the wiring diagram. runs just the injectors.. the other set run a bunch of other devices on the motor.
According to the manual the STO (self test output) of the ecu/pcm....when tested...is supposed to read STO low or 0 volts and if anything would be wrong the needle on an analog V ohm meter will sweep back and forth from low to 12 volts to spell out the
code for the problem. When it stays at 12v would that indicate that the PCM is bad?? Check the main relay that is located behind the drivers side headlight can but to do so remove the coolant overflow bottle. In the process of testing, check for corrosion on the blue wire that goes into the green three wire connector.repair any brakes in the wires

No noise from fuel pump when you turn over the car .First thing get voltage at fuel pump relay checked, is there 12 volt to the relay.If no, then problem is again the relay.--------- To reconfirm the problem, try other test, that is remove the relay and by pass the relay terminals with a jumper wire .Then with 12 volt external battery give power to fuel pump connector and see, if the fuel pump starts, then its clear that fuel pump relay is faulty.----------- Also other problem can be fuel pump inertia switch.If the inertia switch is faulty then also fuel pump will not start.-------- The fuel pump relay on a 1995 Ford Explorer is in the power distribution
box, in the engine compartment, driver's side near the firewall.----------
The fuel pump inertia switch is in the right front passenger area
it is below the dash but above the carpet in the right hand corner.--------
Its a push button type inertia switch.

Fuel Pump Activation
When ignition switch is turned to START position, PCM operates fuel pump relay to provide fuel for starting engine. PCM senses engine speed and shuts off fuel pump by opening ground circuit to fuel pump relay when engine stops or engine speed drops to less than 120 RPM. When ignition switch is in ON position, EEC power relay is energized (contacts closed). Power is provided to fuel pump relay and timer in PCM. Fuel pump receives power through fuel pump relay contacts.
Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) Switch
All models use an electrical interrupt switch in fuel system. During a collision or vehicle rollover, electrical contacts within inertia switch open, shutting off fuel supply to electric fuel pump. Fuel supply is interrupted even when engine is running.
A reset button is located on switch assembly. If electrical circuit trips, vehicle will not restart until switch is reset. Fuel system should be inspected before resetting switch.
IFS switch is located under instrument panel, near right side of transmission hump.

I am not getting a signal to my fuel pump, fuel pump relay nor the 10 amp fuel pump relay fuse. I have checked my wiring from the ECM to the FPR and it is good. Where does the power come from through the...


The fuel pump relay is powered by a fusible link connected to the starter solenoid on the positive battery terminal. That fusible link feeds the 10 amp fuse near the relay. You can test the fusible links with a 12 volt test lamp. If the fusible link test okay check for an open circuit in the wire between the link and the 10 amp fuse. Hope this gets you fixed.

I have check engine error codes 11, 12 on my 95 grand cherokee limited the engine wont start just keeps turning over


Code 11 means no distributor reference signal detected during cranking. Check the circuit between the Distributor and PCM (computer). Also, keep in mind the following operations/tests apply to these relays only: Automatic Shutdown (ASD) , Fuel Pump and Ballast Bypass. For operations/tests on all other relays refer to the appropriate test.

OPERATION:
The relay terminal numbers can be found on the bottom of the relay.
Terminal number 30 is connected to battery voltage and can be switched or B + (hot) at all times.
Terminal number 87A is connected (a circuit is formed) to terminal 30 in the de-energized (normally OFF) position.
Terminal number 87 is connected (a circuit is formed) to terminal 30 in the energized (ON) position. Terminal number 87 then supplies battery voltage to the component being operated.
Terminal number 86 is connected to a switched power source.
Terminal number 85 is grounded by the Engine Controller.

TESTING:
Remove relay before testing.
Using an ohmmeter, perform a resistance test between terminals 85 and 86. Resistance value (ohms) should be 75 ±5 ohms for resistor equipped relays.
Connect the ohmmeter between terminals number 87A and 30. Continuity should be present at this time.
Connect the ohmmeter between terminals number 87 and 30. Continuity should not be present at this time.
Use a set of jumper wires (16 gauge or smaller). Connect one jumper wire between terminal number 85 (on the relay) to the ground side (-) of a 12 Volt power source.
Attach the other jumper wire to the positive side (+) of a 12V power source. Do not connect the jumper wire to relay at this time.

CAUTION: Do not allow the ohmmeter to contact terminals 85 or 86 during these tests. Damage to ohmmeter may result.

Attach the other jumper wire (12V +) to terminal number 86. This will activate the relay. Continuity should now be present between terminals number 87 and 30. Continuity should not be present between terminals number 87A and 30.
Disconnect jumper wires from relay and 12 Volt power source.

If continuity or resistance tests did not pass replace relay. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and connector are located in the engine compartment, mounted to the inner fender, next to the air cleaner housing (click image fo zoom).
DTC 11 - No reference signal during engine cranking. No camshaft reference signal was detected during engine cranking.
DTC 12 - Battery disconnect. Battery input to PCM disconnected during last 50 key starts.
DTC 42 - ASD relay control circuit. An open or shorted condition detected in the auto shut down relay circuit.

first check the fuse if it is good then check for power at the relay
