IT may be the actuator is not working or the vacuum line is disconnected or broken. You may have to remove the actuator to see if it is actually moving upon selection

SOURCE: isuzu rodeo sport 4wd, stuck in 4wd

Don't know if this will help with your exact problem, but I can share with you how I have "fixed" this.

If the 4WD indicator is flashing, then it means the 4WD select switch is working but the 4wd "clutch" hasn't released. Backing the vehicle up slowly, or sometimes just switching into reverse with the 4WD switch in the 2WD position is usually enough to release the 4WD and the 4WD indicator should go off. It after all this, the indicator still does not go off, it could be some issue with the electric 4WD clutch not releasing.
You should be able to tell if the 4WD drive is still engaged by driving slowly in a circle. On drive pavement, the front wheels will "hop" around. Don't do this too fast or too often on drive pavement, since the part time 4WD was not meant for this. The front wheels have to be able to slip in relation to each other, when in 4WD.

Hope this helps and wish you well in your troubleshooting.

SOURCE: Loud clicking noise when 4wd is engaged on left wheel when turnin

Check your cv (constant velocity joint) , It may have a big clearance which is the source of the noise when turning left or right and when 4wd is engage. Juts like front wheel drive cars, if the cv joint is with clearance it will tend to sound in the left or right turns. It is not exactly clicking sound , nmore like knocking sound , low in pitch, but not heavy.

Change your gearbox oil, and clean out the oil strainer.
Should help.

( On some models, you have to remove the gearbox oil pan to clean the strainer )

My truck makes a clunking noise like if it in between 2wd and 4wd what could it be?

make sure it is completely in 2wd. put it in 4wd then 2wd and make sure your hubs are off anyway. now put your truck in reverse and back it up about 10 or 15 feet. this will disengage something. try it and see if i help. no promises though.

I have a 1999 bighorn, when i press the 4x4 button on the dash it wont go into four wheel drive no matter what speed or diretion i go in the light just keeps flashing, if it does go in and i press it to...

This is a car with fixed wheel hubs ? not auto or manual locks ?
First test the shifter on the transfer box is ok - just push for 4wd with the car running but not moveing then see if you can shift into low range easy - if you can ,carry on reading if not its the transfer box motor at fault .
You need to check out the vacumme pipes on the valves on the front axle . On the axle you will see an actuator looks like half a dumbell with two pipes on . In 2wd the pipe furthest from the wheel is sucking and it 4wd the one nearest is .
If you dont have this check the vac pipes and the grey and blue solenoid valves - the grey one is a good place to start it sticks .
