Dump truck sizes

A dual axle dump truck (ten wheels) is normally rated at 10 cubic yards (270 cubic feet) load capacity.
A single axle dump truck (six wheels) is normally rated at 5 cubic yards (135 cubic feet) load capacity.
These are volume measures not weight measures.

4 wheel drive won't engage

Which do you have ?
Transfer Case - NVG 236 (Two Speed Automatic)
Transfer Case - NVG 233-NP1 (Two Speed Selectable)
The NV236 transfer case is an automatic transfer case with three drive ranges. Shifting from rear wheel drive to four wheel drive is done automatically when the transfer case shift control module receives wheel rotating slip information from the speed sensors. The transfer case shift control module then engages the transfer case motor/encoder to position the transfer case from rear to four wheel drive. When the transfer case shift control module receives information that the wheel rotation is the same on both axles, the transfer case shift control module sends position information to the motor/encoder to put the transfer case back into rear wheel drive. The three drive ranges are 2HI, 4HI, and 4LO. The 2HI position is for normal driving with the rear wheels pushing the vehicle. The 4HI, position is for driving through sand, snow, mud, gravel, or heavy rain at normal or slightly below normal speeds. The 4HI engages the front axle to allow for four wheel drive. The front axle is pulling the vehicle, and the rear axle is pushing the vehicle. The 4LO range is used for off road driving, heavy snow, deep mud, or shallow fording. The 4LO is similar to the 4HI except that the gearing in the transfer case is set for low speed and high torque. The NV236 is manufactured at Syracuse New York by New Venture Gear a division of New Process Gear for General Motors.

What is the gross axle weight rating for a Dana 44 front axle?

I take it that you are referring to a real truck
if so I would say that the 8f is the rating of the axle as 8 ton
however if you go on line to dana and find an axle rating page it will have a list of all dana axles and their rated capacity.

Try unplugging the vacuum line to the brake power booster with the vehicle in park and running. Press the brakes if it feels the same then the vacuum booster is bad and needs to be replaced. Try it with the vehicle running, and then not running. If the booster is boosting(for lack of a better term) there will be a difference when it's running.

The electric shift motor spins the front axle up to speed so you can switch to 4wd. When it goes bad you can no longer get the truck into 4wd. .

REAR AXLE

There is a tag on the cover of the diff. It will say the type and axle ratio. If the diff. cover looks sort of like a stop sign, then it's a dana 44 rear. A oval shape(an oval on it's side) is a dana 35.
