Check engine light flashing

Before this happened the car would get to about 2.5 rpms and it would kind of **** like it was trying to go into overdrive as long as you kept the speed around 65 to 70 its fine and then the light started flashing. everything else is fine. no over heating . this is a dodge intrepid 1998

If the light is flashing it means catalytic converter damage can and will occur if you continue driving. You need to find out what the fault code is and correct it. Some parts stores will scan the system for you free of charge in hopes of selling you something. Come back and repost the code and we can go from there.

If the check engine light flashes than the pcm has detected a mis-fire with enough severity to cause catalyst damage.

you should have the vehicle scanned to fnd out which cylinder is mis-firing,

most likely cause is faulty spark plugs or spark plug wires.

good luck

Dear Anonymous,
I am sorry to have to tell you you are most likely to have to take your car to a Lincoln dealer and have your computer replaced, or re-programmed at the least.
This kind of mistake cannot be fixed for free.
God bless your efforts.

I would check the trany fluid level ASAP before the trany is no good and if the problem still persits try replaceing the output speed sensor. which should be on the trany with 2 or 3 wires.

Your friend could be right. Normally if you have a cylinder miss or a problem with the transmission you would get a check engine light and a trouble code. Low fuel pressure may not show up like that.
You may want to check fuel pressure at idle and on the road.

Honda Accord check engine flashes when tapping brakes

Engine light flashing along with the drop on RPMs is indicative of misfires. Connect a scan tool and see if any codes are stored this may give you a starting point. As for the clicking I'm not sure that it is related to the engine light but clicking when braking may be due to worn suspension/steering parts such as control arm bushings

I don't know your year, but transmissions shifting is partly controlled by the throttle position sensor. Have the computer check for codes. If the TPS comes up this is most likely your problem.

Transmission-overdrive not working properly

check the transmission fluid first .
============
overdrive allows the engine to run at lower RPM's , which increases the fuel
economy and also the transmission runs cooler
