There is a wire that has to be connected to the reverse switch on the transmission shifter. If this is not hooked up right you will have this problem.

SOURCE: Tapping into my cigar lighter wire to wire in my stereo?

Yes you can wire it to the cigar lighter. The only problem is you will have to manually shut the radio off. I would find a 12v source with power only in ignition on position . You can go to the ignition switch for that. Good luck.

SOURCE: what is the wirer color diagram 1999 toyota avalon car stereo radio wiring diagram radioconstant12v+wire??

Hi Slick, From my experience working on Toyota motor vehicles, they don't use colour coding. You'll need to identify the cables with a voltmeter and an used AA or AAA battery (like those from the TV remote). First find the constant power (which keeps the memory function of the set powered. Then by a process of elimination turn on the ignition and check each of the other cables until you find the ignition switched power. Check to make sure it' switched by turning the ignition on and off. To identify the speaker cables there should be a number of white cables with black tracer lines. Take any pair (removing a little insulation from the end to leave the metal cable open) and hold one cable onto the negative end of the battery and swipe the other cable end over the positive. As you do that the cable speaker will make a popping sound, where by you can identify which speaker is attached to what set of cables. Regards John

It will supply power regardless ,what you have here is both wires for the feed to the radio are connected to the permanant 12v feed for the memory of the radio ,their will be 2 supplies behind the radio in the loom one permanant 12v and a 12v that turns off when the key is taken out .The problem you have if the positive terminal is crusting up is a leaky battery post so renew the battery and see what happens ,if it still goes flat then you may have a trunk light staying on or a faulty diode in the alternator

I put an after market stereo in my 2000 Pontiac sunfire. There is power to the stereo it turns on and says its playing music but no sound is coming out.

If the unit is powered on then your problem is in the output. Check your aftermarket harness to the speakers. If you did not buy a harness then something is wired incorrectly. A good way to check which speaker is which is buy using a AA battery. Simply touch 2 leads to the positive and negative of the battery and when you have a correct connection the speaker will make a hissing sound.

No power coming thru power wire to my stereo decks any ideas?

You have two wire of 12V + going to your stereo, one is hot all the time and one comes from the ignition switch ( which turn on the stereo when you switch on the car), if it's the +12V one which is hot all the time, you can take another wire from your car's cigarette lighter 12V outlet. if it's the ignition +12V one, you can trace back the wire to ignition switch and change the wire if it's broken.
Hope it helps and please rate the answer if it was helpful, thanks!

Radio/Cassette/CD combo in 2000 Durango just stopped working, was able to eject tape, eject CD but will not power on and only clock will come on for short time. Fuse is okay, any ideas?

You might have to pull deck out from dash enough to make sure all 12+ connections to stereo have power as required. There is more than 1 power connection.
You should have a red with blue stripe wire that has constant +12v, as well as a red, with white stripe wire, that only has power with key on, or in accessory position. (switched) . Double check all accessory fuses and radio fuses as well before.

I have a 2006 Chevy Equinox and today the radio stopped working. Actually it turns on, but the buttons don't work, the volume won't work, the tuner won't respond, etc. I checked the fuse, it's not blown....

You may need to replace the head unit - you can pick up a OEM replacement on ebay for about 70-100, or go to a stereo place and get a double din head unit for as much as you want.

Aftermarket head unit would probably be better anyway, and you can find a decent clarion double din head unit for less than $200, with ipod control, mp3, wma/aac, etc.. it will be better than your OEM stereo.

If you decide to replace the stereo, its really easy and would take only about 30 minutes, message me and i'll tell you how to remove the stereo.
