96 chevy blazer replaced brakes all the way around and both calipers and rotors and drums also replaced axle shaft bearing Everything was working great then the bearing seal started leaking diff fluid and the drum started heating up and caught fire What could have cause this the brakes to have made so much friction it caught fire on all brand new parts

The brake shoes where installed incorrectly comes to mind.

    Maybe hard to say for sure I installed both side exactly the same and the driver side hasn't had any issues

have you checked the wheel bearings? with that wheel raised up off the ground with a jack and on a jack stand, place your hands at the sides of the tire and give it a shake, do the same with your hands at like the 3 o clock and 10 o clock position as to not get your hand hurt if something moves loose, and shake there to, if you feel any play it could be a tie rod, or control arm, spin the tire and listen for any noise, if you hear any you more then likely have a bad bearing....

Replace Front Wheel Hub Bearing 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2 wheel drive


Removal
  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  3. Remove the brake caliper, caliper anchor, rotor and ABS wheel speed sensor.
  4. Remove the cotter pin, nut retainer and axle hub nut.
  5. Remove the hub/bearing mounting bolts from the back of the steering knuckle. Remove hub/bearing from the steering knuckle and off the axle shaft.
Installation
  1. Install the hub/bearing to the knuckle.
  2. Install the hub/bearing-to-knuckle bolts and tighten to specification.
  3. Install the hub washer and nut. Tighten the hub nut to specification. Install the nut retainer and a new cotter pin.
  4. Install the brake rotor, caliper anchor, caliper and ABS wheel speed sensor.
  5. Install the wheel and tire assembly.
  6. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.

How do you get the front spindle nut loose on a 4 by 4 to remove the hub so that the bearings can be changed or isi there another wayy to get it al apsrt


This is a good question. I have a 96 with all of the factory manuals and it dosn't say for the 4 wheel drive just the 2 wheel and thats set up differantly the bearings are in the rotor.On the 4 wheel there in the hub. I've done the brakes and bascily everything else on the truck engine and transmission replacement front carrier and pretty much anything else you can think of but never had to take the axles out from the out side olny off the carrier.Ok i found a veiw of it in the wheel speed sensor replacement section.It looks like you remove the nut after you remove the caliper and rotor then there is three bolts and im hopeing these are not rivits it dosen't say there behind the hub plate that the studs for the wheel come out of these through bolt through the knuckle. Then it looks like you will have to pull the hub out past the axle shaft it looks like a press fit so you will need to use a slide hammer to get it out. then its just a matter of repacking and replaceing the bearings and races' I could fax you the view of the page if you want. I know chevy there is some reason they didn't enclude this in the manual and its likely they screwed up the disgin and don't anyone to know it thats the norm for these books i have all three of them all factory manuals

How do you replace the rear axle seal?


Its easiest to buy a hanes manual for this vehicle for this repair. Here goes. Remove the tire and wheel. Remove the drum if drum brakes or brake caliper and rotor is its disc brakes. remove the cover on the rear differential. remove the small bolt that holds the lock pin in place. slide the lock pic out of the spider gears. **its very important not to let the ring and spider gears turn at this point or the spider gears will fall out of the carrier. Once the lock pin is removed then go around to the axle where the tire was and push it in (toward the rear end) as far as it will go. Go back to the differential and remove the retainer clip (looks like a big "C") from the axle shaft. You can now pull the axle completely out of the housing. At this point you will be able to see the axle seal and the wheel bearing located behind the seal. Carefully remove the old seal (be sure not to damage the wheel bearing) and install the new one. You can then put everything back together. Make sure to refill your differential with oil when everything is back together. check your owners manual for the exact gear oil that you need because these cherokees can use different types depending on the model and towing capacity.

How to replace rear Axle seal on 4x4 chevy


this is very hard if you do not know what you are doing. Ill try to step you through this
  • pull wheels
  • drain pun-kin case
  • pull rear cover
  • in between the spider and axle sets pull C ring with needle nose pliers
  • pull hub and axle out CAREFULLY as there are roller bearings on the end of the axle housing
  • pull seal out at the end of axle housing
  • tap in new seal CAREFULLY and straight DO NOT BEND IT or it will be junk
  • replace axle carefully as the roller bearings are still there
  • replace C clip to original position
  • replace axle diff cover and replace the gasket with a new one
  • refill diff case
  • install tire
  • your good to go

Axle will not come out of the axle housing


I quote from service manual

1 . Raise and support the truck. Remove the rear wheels, the brake drum or brake caliper and rotor. If this is a disc brake, support caliper with wire. Remove seal retainer nuts from axle
housing.

2 . Pull out the axle shaft from housing. Remove the snap ring and bearing race from the axle shaft. Cut the bearing retainer. Break the bearing cage using a hammer and chisel and remove cage and rollers.

3 . Remove the oil seal, the seal retainer and the parking brake assembly (rear). Using a hydraulic press and bearing splitter, press the inner race from axle shaft. Inspect axle shaft for seal wear. Ensure that the shaft is not bent.

Replace lower ball joints on a 2000 chevy blazer 4


Raise vehicle up on jack stands so that the stands are under the lower controll arms and the suspension is "loaded" Remove the front tire(s) (if you break the torque on the nuts while the wheel is still on the ground it helps, but do not loosen them completely as you will be looking for new rims and wheel studs too). Place a drift or some other suitable object in one of the brake rotor vanes so that it will hit the brake caliper and stop the rotor from moving and remove the CV shaft nut (it's a big ****** make sure you have the right socket on hand before getting to this point). Next remove the brake caliper and rotor then undo the wheel bearing retaining bolts and remove the wheel bearing. This should give you enough room to move the axle shaft back and up so you can work on the ball joint. If you've had ball joints replaced before just unbolt the ones that are installed and using a pickle fork, or a block of wood and a hammer, drive the ball joint stud from the knuckle. (make sure to support the upper control arm so it doesn't drop down on you when you do this) If you are working on original ball joints then I reccomend placing a block of wood or something else that will protect the cv boots from drill bits ect and drill out the rivets holding the ball joint in place. then remove in the same manner indicated in the previous paragraph. installation is pretty much the reverse of removal and don't forget to torque your cv shaft nut I have a 1999 and the manual specs 103FTlbs... This is a critical torque as it helps preload your wheel bearing. Too high and you'll burn them up, too low and they'll be loose and wear out.

How do you remove right rear axle on a 2004 ford crown vic to replace seal on wheel?


Section 05-02A: Axle, Integral Carrier — 8.8-Inch Ring Gear 1994 Town Car, Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis. Workshop Manual REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Axle Shaft NOTE: Whenever replacing the rear axle lubricant, use Rear Axle Lubricant XY-90-QL (ESP-M2C154-A) or equivalent.
Removal
sra~us~en~file=ani_caut.gif~gen~ref.gif CAUTION: The rear brake anti-lock sensor must be removed before the axle shafts are removed. The rear brake anti-lock sensor is bolted on the rear disc brake caliper anchor plate.
  1. Raise vehicle to desired working height. Refer to Section 00-02 . Remove rear wheel (1007) and tire assembly. Remove rear disc brake calipers (2552) and rear disc brake rotors (2C026) .




  1. Clean all dirt from area of axle housing cover with a wire brush and/or cloth.
  1. Drain rear axle lubricant by removing the axle housing cover .
  1. Remove differential pinion shaft lock pin and differential pinion shaft .

  1. Push flanged end of the axle shafts toward the center of the vehicle and remove the rear axle shaft retaining u-washer from the button end of the axle shaft .



  1. Remove axle shaft from the rear axle housing , being careful not to damage the inner wheel bearing oil seal (1177) and rear brake anti-lock sensor ring.
Installation
NOTE: Check for presence of rear axle shaft o-ring (4A332) on the spline end of the shaft and install if not present.

  1. Carefully slide axle shaft into rear axle housing without damaging rear wheel bearing (1225) or rear brake anti-lock sensor indicator (2C189) . Start splines into side gear and push firmly until the button end of axle shaft can be seen in the differential case .
  1. Install the rear axle shaft retaining u-washer on the button end of the axle shaft splines, then pull the shaft outboard until the shaft splines engage and the rear axle shaft retaining u-washer seats in the counterbore of the differential side gear .
  1. Position the differential pinion shaft through the differential case and differential pinion gears , aligning the hole in the differential pinion shaft with the lock bolt hole. Apply Rear Axle Lubricant to differential pinion shaft lock pin . Install differential pinion shaft lock pin and tighten to 20-41 Nm (15-30 lb-ft). sra~us~en~file=ani_caut.gif~gen~ref.gif CAUTION: Differential pinion shaft lock pin must be tightened to specification using Stud and Bearing Mount E0AZ-19554-BA (WSK-M2G349-A1) or equivalent.




    NOTE: Axle housing cover must be installed within 15 minutes of application of the silicone rubber or new silicone rubber must be applied.

Inside of axle must be covered when cleaning the machined surface to prevent axle contamination. Tighten the cover bolts in a crosswise pattern to ensure uniform draw on axle housing cover .
  1. Apply Silicone Rubber D6AZ-19562-AA or BA (ESB-M4G92-A or ESE-M4G195-A) or equivalent. Install axle housing cover and tighten retaining bolts to 28-38 Nm (38-52 lb-ft).



  1. Add Motorcraft Rear Axle Lubricant XY-90-QL or KL (ESP-M2C154-A) or equivalent until it is 6-14mm (1/4-9/16 inch) below bottom of fill hole. Add 118.3 mL (4 oz) of Ford Additive Friction Modifier C8AZ-19B546-A (EST-M2C118-A) or equivalent to Traction-Lok axles. Install fill plug and tighten to 20-41 Nm (15-30 lb-ft).
  1. Install rear brake anti-lock sensor indicator . Tighten retaining bolt to 4.5-6.8 Nm (40-60 lb-in).
  1. Install rear disc brake caliper and rear disc brake rotor .
  1. Install wheels and tires.

  1. Insert Rear Bearing Remover T85L-1225-AH in bore and position it behind bearing so tangs on tool engage bearing outer race. Remove rear wheel bearing and inner wheel bearing oil seal as a unit, using Impact Slide Hammer T50T-100-A.

    Rear Disc Brake Caliper Anchor Plate




  1. Lubricate the rear wheel bearing with Rear Axle Lubricant.



  1. Install rear wheel bearing into the housing bore using Axle Tube Bearing Replacer T78P-1225-A.

If inner wheel bearing oil seal becomes cocked in bore during installation, remove it and install a new one.
  1. Install the inner wheel bearing oil seal using Axle Tube Seal Replacer T78P-1177-A. Use Premium Long-Life Grease XG-1-C or K (ESA-M1C75-B) or equivalent between the lips of the inner wheel bearing oil seal .



  1. Install axle shafts as outlined.

Rear Axle Seal Replacement


remove rear tires, then remove brake calipers and rotors, then remove the 4 nuts (each side) that hold the axle shafts to the axle tube (located around the axle tube behind the backing plate) then using a slide hammer pull the axle shafts out, next using a die grinder and an air hammer get he retainer collar and the bearing off (without damaging the axle shaft) then remove the seal and the outer race which will still be in the housing. next put it all back together, make sure the plate with the studs is still on then slide the seal, bearing, then retainer on (all new parts) and using a press push them all the way back on. then is simple reassembly.

Leaking rear axel seal


  1. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear wheel Brake caliper and rotor, if equipped Brake drum, if equipped Axle retainer nuts Axle shaft, seal and bearing assembly
  2. Split the bearing retainer with a chisel and remove the retainer ring.
  3. Press the bearing off the axle shaft.
  4. Remove the axle seal and retaining plate.
