Save your fuel pump!

It is not ever thought of,and with todays fuel is not the best with all the chemicals they use at the refineries >.We change the oil, every 2 to 3000 miles, and that is a good thing, air filters when they are dirty, but what about the fuel filters? This is a filter no one likes to fool with, but I tell you 50 percent of fuel pump failure is the result of clogged fuel filters. They are nasty to fool with, and we just do not think about them to often.A clogged,or restricted fuel filter will cause a fuel pump to strain trying to pump the fuel from the fuel tank up to the engine. This causes more pressure on the pump, the fuel pressure has to go somewhere, and the pump just blows out it`s seals cause there is nowhere for the fuel to go.So my suggestion is every other oil change, install a new fuel filter. With todays fuel, there will be more to clog a fuel filter than there used to be.

How can I tell if my fuel filter is bad on a 2001 Yukon xl or if it's the fuel pump

Take off the fuel filter and see if it's clogged up. If it not clogged up, hook up a fuel pressure gage to the fuel line while you already have the filter off, then check the pressure coming from the fuel pump.

My gas tank leaks and my fuel filter is clogged

The mechanic should check on the leak of the gas tank and locate the leak and weld it .Then if there are leaks also in the fuel lines or hose. The fuel filter should be check also if already worn out or destroyed they should be replace .if clogged or dirty it should be cleaned. there are two fuel filters the primary filter and the secondary filter . That's why you have to do it twice , the cleaning. The clogged that happens on the fuel filter are cost of dirt that are found in the gas that have been stuck in the filters . So that the gas or fuel that will go to the engine is clean to be compressed by the engine.
